I recently updated my Intel drivers to the latest ones and noticed I was getting constant stuttering/lag on my external TV through HDMI. I managed to fix the problem by reverting my drivers to the ones that came factory installed with the laptop, specifically driver version 10.18.15.4281 from 2015. That one has given me zero problems other than some weird freezing in DOOM on my TV.
Has anyone been able to find a fix for this? I read that BIOS 1.3.9 fixes this problem, but then I was reading about people getting black screens when waking up from sleep and others getting bricked machines, so I'm unsure of what I should do.
I have an Alienware 17 R3 and I'm currently running on BIOS 1.2.8. since that has been the most stable for me and has played nice with my Graphics Amplifier.

I have exactly the same problem and I own R3. Stuttering happens only when streaming movies trough hdmi on tv. I have the latest drivers incl bios.
Im wondering this is due to the video codecs or the latest nvidia /intel drivers.
Regardless of all this, Im going to format my both drivers some time next week as I simply have to due to my experiencing with windows and corrupting it. ( stuttering was there before corrupting my win copy )
I willupdate you how it goes after format

And yeah I know what you mean, I had to factory wipe my laptop to go back to the original Intel drivers that came installed with it.
I had a bad experience trying to uninstall my Intel drivers that left me pretty paranoid about messing with them (Blue Screen of Death and HDMI stopped working). Never am I uninstalling my Intel drivers again. Only updating or reverting from now on.
Hope someone out there knows how to fix this. -
Use the latest dell drivers and make sure windows 10 doesnt overwrite them with their own crap from time to time.
Also use the latest bios. This should fix this. I had this as well with my external monitor. Even dragging a window on my desktop would cause the stutters. -
And sorry if I'm doubting you, I'm just paranoid about messing with my BIOS and Intel drivers again after bad experiences. (Had to deal with stuttering for an entire year before I finally fixed it by reverting to the factory Intel driver by wiping my entire laptop) -
However the guys from Alienware strongly recommended me to use the latest bios for various reasons. You can always try to use the latest AW intel HD driver ofcourse first. But again make sure that the automatic driver update is turned off. -
I think for now I will hold off on updating anything since my laptop is 100% stable atm and I don't want to risk new problems by messing with the BIOS and Intel Drivers. I was reading the other thread and some people mentioned they were getting weird artifacts and stuttering still even on the latest BIOS and Intel Drivers. I don't know if its due to them using drivers directly from Intel's website, updating via device manager, or using drivers from Dell's website but I shall hold off for now until more people confirm everything is working perfectly. My warranty just expired and I rather not risk anything.
Oh also, can you tell me what Intel drivers you are using? I just checked the one on Dell's website and the latest there is 20.19.15.4483 -

I'd advise you to try DDU and wipe existing intel drivers so that you get the clean install feeling and it works. Just grab the latest one from Intel or Dell both work fine. Latest BIOS is very stable and just make sure Hibernation or fast startup is disabled and after that perform BIOS update if you need to.
Latest Intel Drivers causing stuttering via hdmi/external TV?
