I opened up my laptop and i found that the LED status light cable which connects from the motherboard to the power button board has partially melted on the left side and this explains why my caps lock light had issues.

I unplugged and replugged the cable but now none of the lights work anymore.

I'm wondering if i should reopen and unplug this from both ends, or is it harmless as it is?

Unplug and replace that cable asap. melted cables like that cause contacts in places where they shouldn't, likely leading to shorts in the motherboard. Suddenly no lights is a dead give away of that. It might not get worse but it has a very real possibility of actually getting worse.

The cable won't be very expensive, but finding a replacement will probably be difficult.

    edit:

closer inspection, you might try replacing the daughter board that is also burnt.

To add to what Muezick said, i would consider investigating what has lead to that flat cable to be in that state

Yeah i removed that cable, can get the cable online and it's not too expensive,

I got the laptop refurbished from a reseller, at the very beginning there was an issue with the caps lock light requiring repeated presses to get it to light up , so i can only assume that the cable was damaged from the beginning.

Something might have happened since the cable holder is also damaged.
