If I wanted to swap displays from say a FHD to UHD, are the video connectors the same for each panel? Or would they be different?

Are the motherboard connections also the same situation?

I searched through the 15 R3 owner's lounge and couldn't find any definitive answers.

Any help is very much appreciated.

You need to get the 40pin display cable, 4k display frame, bezel and panel itself.

Then you need the exact opposite. you need the 30pin screen cable, fhd bezel and screen itself ofcourse. as far as i know you dont need a screen frame for the fhd version.

No problem. parts-people.com often is selling the full uhd assembly by the way. touchscreen version.

So essentially this is a simple plug and play upgrade? In the past I've seen the mother board connections to be different depending on what panel you opted for initially.

From your info above, the connectors look to be the same on the motherboard just different for each respective panel or am I completely off base?

Depends on where u get the screen from.
Different LCDS some times have different lids and bezels because you need not just worry about the correct connector but you also need to worry about the outline size of the LCD.
So really you could only use the same size of LCD that Dell offers. You would then need to make sure you have the same assembly.
When Dell swaps an LCD, even for the same exact LCD, they often send the whole lid with the LCD, Wifi wires etc. already in it.

So if I had two complete Lid assemblies from Dell for argument's sake, everything would be plug and play?

The reason I'm asking all these questions is because I currently have two 15 R3s in my possession. My first unit has bad thermals which Dell agreed to send a replacement. The replacement unit has great thermals but the display suffers from some sort of Burn In.

I was thinking of swapping the Lid assemblies from my 1st unit to the replacement unit. This is of course if Dell OKs this.

I want to make sure it will be just plug and play beforehand.

Thanks again to both of you.

I will tell you with 100% certainty, they wouldn't OK this. The last time I was allowed to perform internal work on my system was with my first MX17; almost 8 years ago now. Never mind the fact that they need to have both units back with the parts they shipped with.
