I have a alienware 17 r4, running the latest bios and windows fall creators update. Lately, my keyboard keys (AOL and a few others) stopped working after going to sleep or a restart.

The only way to fix it, is to do a coldboot. But it does not always work. I've already had my keyboard replaced, but dell won't help me anymore because I "repasted" the system.

Also I've reset windows, reinstalled it. But still having the same behavior.

After a few minutes the keys start working again, but it is pretty annoying.

Because I've repasted my system, my warranty became invalid.

    Any suggestions ?

Repasted my laptop six times in a year to find very good temps and they did replace my battery when it died.
Then again, repaste won't void warranty at all. Just put your service tag at AW site. @iunlock can help you just in case you're residing in the US.
The idea is never to say it and simply forget what you said whenever speaking to them. They(tech_support) turn hostile upon hearing the word "repaste", "Liquid Metal", "Thermal pads" etc..
Use the twitter handle as well. Even AW_Umar himself said repaste won't void warranty at all provided you don't break things. If you broke you pay extra for broken parts.

Thank you, this is the second time dell tech support treats me likes this.

As for the repasted, nothing is broke. Everything works fine, (except for my core imbalance) the keys just stop working that's it. Sometimes in the bios they also won't work but after staying in the bios for a while, they work again.

The same behaviour, happens with this new keyboard. I thought it was a windows fall creators update, but because it doesn't work outside of windows it cannot be windows.

I also do not think it is broke, because this is also my second mobo, and it has worked for 1 and a half months just fine. Until some keys stopped working after sleep.

I'll see if I can contact alienware directly via Twitter.

I'm based in the Netherlands, so I'm unfortunate to not have iunlock his services available. Thanks for the suggestion !

So that's why they're scaring customers. Any laptops I'll buy would be from Hidevolution because even with higher cost as here in India(top end model costs $5000 with 1 yr warranty) I get 3 yr warranty w/ Accidental damage protection too from Hidevo.
Just cleaning the keyboard, macro and AlienFX cable ribbons might fix it.
