I just placed an order yesterday for an alienware 15 r2(i7 6700hq GTX965m) is the 180W enough for me or will it also benefit from 240W as what other have stated(on GTX970m & 980m)

The 965m has a maximum operational requirement of around 70W. The 6700hq has a TDP of around 45W. 70 + 45 = 115W total draw, with 65W reserve for anything else.

(Though this isn't really the most accurate way of calculating power draw).

So to answer your question, yes, the 180W should be enough. ;)

    My pleasure.

Whilst I'm not sure about potential parity with the GTX 750, I can say that the 965M is effectively on par with the 'Kepler' series GTX 870M, and definitely fast enough to run most titles at medium-high details/ 1080p.

Either way, I hope you enjoy your laptop!

I can confirm that the 240W adapter has been used only on 980m systems. The 965m version should do fine with the 180W adapter.

The newest BIOS corrects the power draw of the 180W adapter with the 980m tho'.

I just ordered the 15 R2 970m 6700hq and it says shipping with a 180W power adaptor. I think it should be fine as notebookcheck only measured power draw around 165, but with overclocking a little bit this could easily go over 180W I think. I will see how it performs once I recieve the system may need to ask for 240W. Also does anyone know where to get a decent cheap killawatt inline meter to measure power draw ?

Edited: I found a kill a watt device to measure draw on amazon about 20$
