So I ordered the laptop last week and it arrived today - much quicker than I expected!
Fired it up and found that it's not running the GTX 1070 it was ordered with, but a Radeon RX470... also unexpected!
(Paperwork shows the 1070 and the service tag matches the paperwork - it just has the wrong graphics card.)
Contacted Dell to arrange an exchange, and they said the only way they can do it is to process a return on the laptop and have me order again. Whatever, not a problem...
So after that I go to check the current pricing on the laptop (I imagine they'll honor the original price, but I was curious), and find that I can no longer configure the AW15 in the same way.
The config was a 6700HQ, GTX 1070, and the 1080p 60 Hz screen. But now (at least on the website) I can only get the 1080p60 screen if I get the GTX 1060. If I get the GTX 1070, it's either the 1080p120 (G-sync) or 4K displays (and I'm going for battery life when away from the desk, so neither of those are what I'm after).
Anyway, I guess my options are to try getting the original configuration custom ordered (anyone have thoughts/experience with that?), or figure out a different machine to buy.
Just thought I would share! Haven't bought a laptop in a while... is this sort of thing common with AW/Dell?

Sorry if this is OT. A lot of people are interested in the performance of the RX470, can you give us a run of Firestrike/Extreme/Ultra please?

Yeah the 470 is actually quite poor as a gpu for a 2016/2017 gaming laptop. i would not recommend it. even the 1060 is quite a bit faster which is also faster than a 980M.
I consider the 980M. the bottom acceptable for 1080P 60fps gaming nowadays with decent settings (bf1 with everything on high instead of ultra keeps the fps at a healthy 80fps then). -
Just got my AW 15 R3 with... an RX470? Now my config is unavailable?
