Hey, guys ive been very anxious about what GPU is exactly in my laptop. The Dell Outlet listing did not mention the GPU. Very odd I know, but I could end up with a 980m.

Now, the dell sales rep told me it was a 970m and that was OK with me. But I dont know how he could know that since the build list doesnt mention what GPU. So now im worried that its got a 965m and thats unacceptable to me. Its a fairly loaded laptop with i7 4720, 16gb ram, 4K screen, 256 gb msata + 1tb HDD so I dont want to think its a 965m.

Also, this line has drawn my attention : MOD,ASSY,BASE,I7-4720HQ,GX,E15

Could the "GX" part maybe mean 980m? As the 965m is GS and the 970m is GT.

    Thanks!

The AW15 R1 with i7 never came with a GTX 965m, so you're down to a GTX 970m or GTX 980m (the config can come with an R9 m295x / m390x, but you know it isn't an AMD GPU).
I would assume it's a GTX 970m. If it happens to be a GTX 980m, then great.

I would call them again to confirm. with the spec of the laptop it will be at least a 970m if not a 980m

you will have the service tag of the laptop from the copy of the order that you placed via email, call dell and ask them which GPU is installed.

that's what i did, and they where able to tell me.

    Hope this helps

Thanks guys, the GPU is indeed a 970m.

Also, the 4K screen has that screen door effect but I guess I can deal with that.

But what really irritates me is that it has a stuck white pixel in the middle is the screen and the idiots at Dell installed the OS on the damn 5400 RPM drive.

The 256 gb is labeled as "Data"

How do you screw that up? Hopefully they will compensate me for all this, since I've got to live with a stick pixel and have to spend half a damn day reinstalling the OS from scratch.

They will swap out the screen for the stuck pixel. I personally would just wait for a better one on the outlet and then just complain to customer service for a refund. You could get a refund even months after purchase because of the issues and the fact you have to wait to find a better one. (Done it several times.)

I managed to swap over the OS and just did a clean install since the Alienware app didn't want to use my flashdrive.

Thankfully I got ahold of someone in returns who gave me a $75 refund for my issues and thats fair. I dont really notice the stuck pixel unless I actively look for it since it's so small.

So, for anyone else here, they do give partial refunds in case you have issues with your order. You can just chat with the Returns Department.

I would still use your valuable warranty to have them swap the LCD. Check to make sure you have a LG LCD too. The LG is better then the Samsung. Just some suggestions.

Yea, thats a common thing even if there are no issues. Anytime you try and return something at Dell they will offer some money back to try and get you to keep the product.

    I a
I actually found an even better system in the outlet, A base Alienware R2 with 16gb RAM and a 980m for $917 after 33% off!

It didnt have a video card listed much like the 15 I bought but they were right before so I trusted them, even so its about $400 less than the 15 I just bought so even if it came with a 970m id still be making out like a bandit.
