Is this a good time to get a new Alienware 17? or wait for the black friday sale?

If you can wait, I would say wait for the 1080 version.

Since AW now is BGA i.e. not upgradable anymore, I would recommend you get top of the line components.

Depending on the sale now... They recently had a 300 off and it stacked with 10% off on the new AW15 (but that was only the 1060 variant).

I don't think there will be any massive sales for BF on the new alienwares.

As for BGA and not up gradable... keep in mind there is the amplifier. I have a GTX 1080 in mine and rather have that over the mobile 1080. Sure the performance is about the same but when the 1180 or 1080ti comes out, I can sell what I have now and upgrade for a smaller margin instead of having to sell my laptop and upgrade that way. Price wise, the cost of the mobile 1080 will be 5-600 more than the base 1060 so I think its more wise to get the amp and a 1080 (700-800) more than pay the upgrade for the 1080 internally.

You should wait until next month when the 1080 comes out. We may even see Kaby Lake soon.

As mentioned above, these machines are very limited in their upgradeability. And I would also recommend getting two years of premium support warranty to protect your investment (somewhat). After two years, the hardware inside will be fairly obsolete with Volta on the horizon. Warranty is still cheaper during checkout than when renewing.

They stated something about a January release for Kaby Lake, so you may want to wait, if you can. There are some issues here and there with hardware on the newer machines, so you're also likely to get a machine that has had a lot of those kinks worked out too, if you wait.
