Is there anyone who wants to unlock 1080 tdp to 200W for AW 17 R4 GTX 1080 edition?
temp is ok but if you have changed the thermal paste
you can find vbios with your device id on google:
such as 10de 1be0 , you will find about 3 vbios on techpowerup
but if you flash it , you can not flash back to orginal vbios
I suggest to flash that gigabyte one
hope you enjoy it ,
and you can watch my video on

Yes me and many others I'm sure! We'll also need the voltage to go up from 1.063 V too. Alienware are aware and are increasing the power soon. At least to 180W from what I've heard.hopefully we'll get more than that (200W would be nice) and the voltage will go up as well. We will hear more in the 2nd week of Feb I believe guys

200w is too much for that heatsink in my opinion. they had to use vapor chamber or something like that for the 200w
Vasudev likes this. -
The voltage on the MSI which has a 180W+ TDP is the same.
-
Nah, the GPU still stays cool (high 50's - low 60's) at 200w, even on systems without the vapor chamber. Plus they already said they designed the thermal headroom for 180w.
-
Vapor chambers are a bit more like vapor ware. No vapor chamber equipped cooler really performs better. In the end its a small die and the heatpipes are sufficient enough to pull the heat away from the die. Its all about the heatsink size itself in these cases.

Is this also possible with a 1070? And will it remove the pwrcap?
-
you can try it , I don't have time to test, but I have flashed the 1060 edition and it helps
and if you want to change the tdp on 1070, you may need a PROGRAMMER to flash the vbios and there are two vbios chip on the board -
i am a completly noob to flashing a vbios. So i have no idea. and i am a little bit scared that i will brick my laptop. Hopefully someone else will test it :S
-
= =haha, you may wait a long time , but in my opinion there is no harm to your laptop
-
As Dreamonic from Voltground said, you can't use NVflash to change Mobile Pascale GPU bios with a custom one : http://www.voltground.com/haven/threads/94/
And there's a second check that just bricks the GPU if "Falcon" VBios'zone is modified. -
that 1080 edition on 17 r4 I flashed is not a custome one it's really a official vbios , and I had flashed it to msi and gigabyte vbios to test.
I suggest to flash the gigabyte one -
An official 1080 Notebook Bios or a Desktop Bios ?
-
of course the oficial notebook vbios
there are 4 vbios now, two msi one clevo one gigabyte , aw17 r4 gtx 1080 can flash those 4 , I had tested it, ok?

Ok, ok. Just wanted to know as some experiments have been done with desktop VBios on Laptop GPU to unlock power limit.
I didn't know there was Official Notebook Bios with higher PL for GTX 1080.
But not being able to revert back to stock VBios can be an issue.
By the way, any specifics about G-Sync/Optimus with those VBios?sarou likes this. -
I found it occasionally, I wanted to try and it worked .... but then I found that can't flash back to the stock...
gsync work well on my 1440p 120 tn pannel -
but when I flash to the stock vibos, nvflash note me that need a newer nvflash edition , so if there is a newer nvflash I will test to flash back to stock
-
Good to know, thanks for the info.
Please let us know when you manage to successfully flash your Vbios back
-
it's ok
-
It's ok as in it worked? You can now flash back to stock vbios?

I mean I will try if there is a newer nvflash versionPete Light likes this.
-
They are working on a vBIOS that unlocks the power limit further.
Stay Tuned...
Anyone flashing vBIOS(s) from random systems should realize they can brick the mobo pretty easy.
I wouldnt suggest that people start randomly flashing random vBIOS(s) from other systems.
Plus, a BGA laptop has a differently slightly differently designed VRM since its all on one PCB.
Im not saying another vBIOS wont work but its really a craps shoot.
I'd just wait.
Did you back up the stock vBIOS? -
yes, I backed up it.
It's ok to flash with bga card -
Not saying its not ok.
I merely wrote that so a bunch of people don't go flashing random vBIOS(s) and have to mobo swap.
So what are your results?
Whats your temps?
Whats your clocks?
What TDP are you hitting? -
my results? thatt vedio shows a lot
I changed the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut
temp is aournd 60 at 18℃ indoor
about 1911MHz but depends on your card
TDP also under 200W with that gigabyte vbios -
Can you join us (Team LHz) on Discord? I would like to talk to you if possible.

What stops you from flashing vBIOS back?
What error do you get? -
nvflash note me that I nay need a newer nvflash, so I stop, and if there is a new nvflash I will try
-
Which version do you have?
-
5.328 can't flash back to stock
so I'm waiting for a new version -
Have you tried an older version?
If recall correctly this same issue happened with the R3.
Many resolved it by going to an older version. -
Have you tried an older version that still had pascal support?
In the past sometimes older versions of Nvflash has been a solution.
Just a thought.
-
I've tried many even bypass version, but it didn't work, so I'm waiting
Is there anyone who wants to unlock 1080 tdp to 200W?
