Opened my system up yesterday and the windows 8 lock screen was telling me that I needed to reboot my pc for software updates to windows. So I reboot, get into windows (after an unusual black screen) and go to launch a game. My frame rates are just bad, so I fire up MSI afterburner to see what's going on. Turns out it's running on the intel gpu. I right click my desktop and don't even see an option to get to the nvidia control panel. In the Device Manager it has a yellow exclamation icon on the GTX 980M saying that windows has stopped the device because it has reported problems (Code 43).
I uninstalled the drivers, rolled back the windows update, tried older drivers even updated to windows 10 and still have the same Code 43.
Is it just a coincidence that this happened around a windows update restart and the gpu is really gone bad?

Yep, it is dead. Sat through a 2 hour call with dell tech support and their attempts at uninstalling and reinstalling lead to the same result. So now it's time to wait on a tech to replace the whole motherboard / cpu / gpu bga combo.

Well figured I would share the board pics along with how the paste looked.
Is my 980m Dead?
