Hi there, everyone. As always, im sorry for mistakes i make, cause English is not my native.

It has been 5 month after i bought a god damn AW15 i7-4710HQ, GTX 970m, FHD IPS screen, and 4 month of this time it has been lying in the darkest place in my room, collecting dust, because this laptop is a piece of crap.

Nevertheless, it is time when i need my gaming laptop. And.. i f**king cant use it. Okay, now i dont care that it heats up to 80C when i use google chrome. I dont care about the faulty AW drivers and software, which launches when it wants and not when i want. I dont care, that screen brightness lags after sleep mode like it was on A00. I just cant stand this ghosting issue.

It really ghosts like hell and i cant play because of this. Just because my eyes start to hurt. So. Is ghosting considered to be a warranty issue? Can i go to the official service center and ask them to replace my screen? Does anyone know any models of screens which suit AW15, in case service center will say that this amount of ghosting is okay? Maybe if Dell doesnt want to make a deal, i will have to fix the by myself by changing it.

    BTW I have Samsung 156HL.
    Thank you.

YOu can ask for it, but it might be difficult.

But why dont you update all the drivers and bios updates etc? Heating up to 80c while just being relatively used lightly is not what I experience on this machine and is i think abnormal behaviour. But I have only used this machine with A05 and A06.

Ghosting is an inherent property of IPS panels, it frequently happens with a majority of IPS panels.

As for temps, new Alienwares are known to run hot. My AW17 R2 runs around the same temperature.

Mine runs around 65c~70c with fans not spinning. After that the fans will slowly spin up and cool the machine. It never goes above 75c while gaming. 80c when both stressing the CPU & GPU.

But it is true, all IPS panels have some sort of ghosting, just depends how severe it is. The LG panel in my AW15 R1 has minimal ghosting. But faster TN panels had less but ****ty viewing angles ofcourse.

Drivers and bios are updated. But fan tables aren't fixed in A06, so T reaches 80 when a lot of tabs in browser are opened. On A00 everything is fine. And drivers that are distributed by Dell are just hilarious (sometimes they just don't launch, because sc**w me, that's why).

I know it. But hard ghosting exists only when very cheap IPS panels are installed. My previous 500$ Acer had an IPS which almost didn't have ghosting, but my 2.000 AW has it so hard I can't even use the laptop.

No warranty for ghosting, what you got is what it is.

My AW15 with A06 never reached 80c with just chrome. I really have to push the system for that. So I would take a look at that as well. Sounds like too much thermal grease.

Yes it is a warranty issue and yes they can fix it.
The only issue is that an LCD replacement gives a random LCD and Dell has no way of ordering a specific brand LCD.

Another thing to consider would be the fact that different regions might have different supply.
My exchange was done in the USA.

The Samsung LCD Ghosts badly and the LG panel is within normal range for an IPS.
LG is night and day compared to the Samsung when it comes to Ghosting.
I too had this problem and it drove me insane. I now have the LG panel and am very happy with my AW15.
Just tell them its ghosting and they will replace the LCD. If they give you another Samsung then get them to replace it again and again until you get an LG.

    Hope this helps.

You'll be swapping one crappy LCD for another crappy LCD. They may replace it but it's pointless.

The 4k option is the only "decent" screen they offer on the AW 15. Buy that, lower the resolution, and / or use an external monitor.

The first LG fhd screen was great. So strange they do not offer that one anymore. But the latest MSI gs70 has a similar issue. For some reason the new panel in there is also poor with very crappy brightness.

Something seems to be up with fhd screen panels from various manufacturers these days.

Not true.. I am as picky as they come and the LG is pretty good. The ghosting on the LG is lower then the 4K. (tested side by side)
Having owned tons of gaming laptops and several IPS monitors the LG seems to be on par as one would expect from a acceptable IPS. (not low end but not high end)

Now, as a graphic designer I can say the touch screen 4k screen sucks. (My opinion)
The 980m cant really push 4k nicely so one is forced either to have lower FPS or play games in a non native resolution thus not using the 4K lol. (4K on really shines on large screens like TVs)
Plus on top of that they decided to make their 4K a touch screen. Gross! Why? Cuz so many people use touch screens on non tablet devices. (sarcasm / opinion).
On top of that most low end touch panels (i.e. from Dell) you can actually see the touch layer which affects visual clarity of the panel.
Touch layers creates a grainy appearance especially on solid colors. This is because there is an physical touch layer overlay to have the touch function.
I have had both systems side by side and it drove me crazy. Believe me if the touch layer was crystal clear I would be screamin' "Touch screen, touch screen"
Why don't iPads/Galaxys etc have this? Simple their touch screen is higher quality. Go buy a cheap tablet and you will see the same thing.
Notice there are no MacBook touch screens? Ask yourself why? :p

If you don't want ghosting on the 1080p panels swap it out till you get an LG. Problems Solved.

    End Rant!
