So I have an Alienware 17 R3 and Microsoft decided to update my display drivers to the latest and I can't roll back to my old drivers since it got rid of them 1 update before the Creators Update.
Now I have my external display stuttering issue again. I managed to fix it a long time ago by using the factory image from Alienware and wiping my computer back to how I got it when I bought it and it used some old intel drivers from 2015 that worked great.
But now my problem returned, and I don't want to reset my entire PC all over again just to get those old drivers back. Some other user on here mentioned that updating the BIOS fixed the stuttering for him on external displays, I was on 1.2.8 before and now I'm on 1.3.10, and it did NOT fix the issue, I still get horrible stuttering on the latest intel drivers on any external monitor/TV.
So my question is, should I try to update my display drivers to the latest ones from Intel rather than Dell? I saw that there was a exe. and zip. file on their website so I downloaded the exe. file and tried running it but it stopped and warned me I should get my drivers instead from Dell.

I managed to get my old Intel display driver from 2015 back through device manager, I didn't know it had an option to look through all of my past old drivers and install them straight through the device manager, even though the roll back option was grayed out and everything. My problem got fixed again thankfully no more lag or stutter on my external displays.
My question still stands though, is it safe to install display drivers through Intel rather than Dell manually despite the warning it gave?
Thanks in advance. -
Use the dell drivers latest should fix it. after that block the automatic driver update.

BIOS 1.3.10 didn't fix it either, I'm probably just going to always stick with this old driver because it has been the most reliable one for me. I get zero issues with it besides some weird loading screen freezes in DOOM that require alt-tabbing to fix and diagonal screen tearing in certain games with v-sync, but I read that's a Nvidia/Windows problem with laptops. -

Should be the intel driver version then, again make sure windows update doesnt interfere. -
Btw, what Intel driver version are you currently using? -

I'm using older Intel driver 4542. There's newer 46xx series drivers. I will test it and get back with the results.
Intel VS Dell display drivers? External display stuttering?
