So, strange issue of mine. On certain sites while in Firefox my Intel driver would crash, namely this site and another one that utilizes JavaScript. If it's defective it should be crashing a lot more often but it usually only happens on specific sites. Anybody have any clue what's going on? I have the most recent Dell driver installed (tried using driver from Intel site but it claims I'm already up to date).
Edit: should also point out it happens on both windows 8.1 and 10 if that matters.

I had that exact issue. Running f FF/win 8.1, intel HD drivers would crash and thow a message saying the sys had recovered. Only Effect was that FF had to be restarted. Not unusual for this to happen several times a day.
I did a windows update about a month ago, updating a lot of dotnet stuff and the problem went away completely. NOW, however, I'll get black screen total crashes once or twice a week, when I never had before. Go figure.
Still running the original Intel hd graphics driver since it is so difficult to update.hmscott likes this. -
What do you think makes updating the Intel HD driver so difficult?
You find out your CPU/iGPU model numbers, and search on Intel's site for the newest version - bookmark the site page(s) for your hardware so you can easily check in the future for updates.
The Intel update tool isn't very good, it was ok, found stuff, and then they came out with a new one and it doesn't find squat.
Neither of you mentioned your iGPU number or the Intel HD version info... hard to help with a find at Intel for you without that info
For example, my Intel iGPU is the 6200 so I would search for:
6200 intel hd video driver download
And the first result takes me to the Intel download site, with the latest Intel HD driver for the 6200
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pr...6200-for-5th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors
Here is what my Intel HD Control Panel, top, and drill down for version number look like:
In my case, I hunted down an even newer version - often vendors like Dell/Toshiba/Samsung/Acer/Asus/MSI/Gigabyte will put up a beta with important fixes, some will be locked to the vendor hardware, but most video drivers are useable, and with newest fixes are likely what you are looking for.
The 6200 Latest driver release version is 15.36.28.4332 - BETA is 15.40.18.4380, and I am using 20.19.15.4364 which I found on Geeks3D at the end of January

And, geeks3d now has a newer beta download
Searched for Intel HD on the geeks3d site:

Topic: Intel HD Graphics Driver 20.19.15.4380 beta - broken download link...sigh

Found it based on the version number, download from secure Softpedia site:

Another good place to look is on the Intel Graphics Support forums

So what is your CPU/iGPU?Last edited: Feb 22, 2016 -
So I have the i7 6820k CPU with the Intel HD 530. I just went to the Dell driver page less than an hour of this writing and downloaded the Intel driver from there. Now, instead of the driver crashing on this forum, when I scroll down past a certain point on the threads I blue screen and computer restarts.

Also, make sure you updated all of the other Intel drivers - Chipset, Management Engine, and all the other drivers for the system.
Is the Dell version number newer than the ones available from Intel? Maybe back up to the previous non-beta, or check out newer beta version from Intel.
When you have new hardware, new OS, and new drivers, that mix is going to be a volatile balancing act for many months after initial release.
What laptop is the 6820HK in? Does that laptop use Intel Optimus, or does it require you to flip a switch and reboot to change from discrete Nvidia GPU to Intel GPU? Are you sure you are running Intel iGPU and not Nvidia GPU?
Nvidia 359.00 is the favored stable running version for most people, but I have no problem running 361.91 on my GT80 SLI-263 running Windows 8.1.
Find the sweet spot driver for Nvidia on your model as well, make sure both Nvidia and Intel drivers are up to date. -
According to the Dell driver page, it says Version: 20.19.15.4312 ,A05. I have the Alienware 17 R3 and it does use optimus. I notice when I have an external monitor hooked up I have no problem (most likely because the 980m is being utilized and not the intel HD). Currently on 359.06 but that shouldn't matter as the issue is only on the Intel HD side. Will give the chipset and management engine a shot. May as well try out the beta drivers too.
Edit: Just installed the latest chipset driver from the intel site. Tried to install the beta driver but even when manually updating drivers, Windows is telling me mine is already up to date. Yet the crash still happens only in very specific moments when browsing this forum. The chip can't be defective right? Otherwise I'd see the crashing a lot more often everwhere.
Double edit: After installing chrome and trying to reproduce the problems I had in firefox, it seemed fine. Went back to firefox and the driver crashing happened again. This is super odd as firefox has no problems with nvidia chips. There's no reason for an entire machine to blue screen and reboot due to firefox...but it does.Last edited: Feb 22, 2016 -
I have seen others complaining of the problem, it could be a FF bug catalyzed by something the Intel driver is doing. I would check the FF boards, maybe check out a nightly build and see if the crashing stops.
https://nightly.mozilla.org/
You will also want to run the extension, Nightly Tester Tools, and check the menu option "Force Addon Compatibility" so all of your extensions enable.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nightly-tester-tools/
You could also right click on FF and set to run only on Nvidia, or set it in the 3D settings Programs tab.
So you downloaded and tried to install Intel HD Graphics Driver 20.19.15.4380 beta and it says you are up to date?
Try uninstall Intel HD driver using DDU to uninstall, then install Intel HD Graphics Driver 20.19.15.4380 beta.

I had Intel HD driver crashes randomly on my AW 15 R2, it was not related to any program. A updates of the driver helped, currently I'm running 20.19.15.4352.

The 20.19.15.4380 download link I posted earlier worked for me just now, it says the download is for Beta_15.40.18.4380.zip, but the final install version showing in the Intel HD Information panel shows 20.19.15.4380.
I used DDU to uninstall the previous Intel HD driver first.

FYI I have this problem too. Turning off hardware acceleration in Firefox seems to stop it
