Having had one and it works still or you’ve had it repaired. Would you return the area 51m for a refund if dell offered? If so why would you return it? So in love with it you wouldn't return it spite the current issues?

I would return if I needed more performance in absolute terms and/or per buck, but didn't really care about mobility due to external monitor etc. (would get a desktop instead).

Would also return it if I needed a notebook featuring usable battery life (and get m17/m15 + AGA if needed).

I dont think your question is clear enough. Are you talking about a replacement? Or some sort of product recall? Or simply a normal RMA?

I returned mine. The risk of failure, hassle, performance per dollar, 2 power bricks, lack of portability and high cost weren't enough to trade off for the positives.

A lot of it is the shortcomings of the RTX series though, offering far less of a jump from 10 series than 9 to 10. Ray tracing is far too taxing on the current RTX cards and it makes the feature pointless due to the massive loss of FPS. If Ray Tracing performed well and was worth it and the 20 series was a significant jump from the 10 series, I probably would have kept the laptop and just had a nice fat warranty.

I've placed an order through Hidevolution with delidded 9700k and a LM pasted RTX 2080 on 2nd May. Was initially supposed to ship out on 19th May but have been informed that it'll delay until Dell give them an internal reply regarding the burning issues. I don't mind it too much because a few days delay is better than the reordering hassle and the wait times it creates.
I've been waiting for a LGA desktop processors to be released by AW for a long time and I'm willing to take a chance on this "burning" issue and I'm sure its only a matter of time before they fix it. Hidevolution also gives you a upgraded 2 year warranty so I'm not too worried about that.
I've tried a Clevo LGA laptop with the MXM 1080 before but I ended up returning it because the build quality of those things was just cheap and flimsy. After getting used to the build quality of a M15x and a M17xR3, I just couldn't justify the purchase of a Clevo no matter how good the performance of the system was.

Hmmm, I wonder if these Area 51m returns are going to be refurbed and sold at discount prices in the Dell Refurbished PC Outlet, soon?

It wouldn't be the first time I've seen AW fans return lemons, and turn around and buy them as cheap refurbished laptop's from Dell's Outlet (Clearance Center).

I got my AW from Hidevolution last week, after 3 days my machine got burned, since i live in israel, it would cost me 280$ to ship it back, hidevolution said they will pay for the sheeping of the new system back to me, but now im thinking maybe to return and get a razer blade 15 instead. Has the performance of a 2070 card but mobile..
