So the title is the question. If the AW15R2 screens suck, is the AW17R3 a better option or are those screens bad too ? Im not bothered which size I get. They are both big, but the 17 is just a couple of inches longer and one inch wider.
AW17R3 users... please comment especially. What are your FHD and UHD/4K screens like ? Are they glossy ? Are they touch ?
Thanks

My 17R3 is matted and it's 4K. The screen is excellent and I can attest to that for all the 4K screen options. As for the FHD, it can be a hit or a miss. Just depends on the luck of the draw. However, you can replace the stock FHD panel for another one for almost nothing.

I have the 17 R3 with the 4K screen and it is incredible. The nicest screen I have ever used.
The UHD 4K is a matte screen, but looks incredible. There is no touch screen on these anymore. -
That's pretty much what swayed me in the end. I figured I'll just buy it and take the chance, if it's so bad I can't stand it just buy another one, FHD screens are pretty cheap anyway.
-
Sorry, to clarify, are you saying the 4K screen on the latest 17 R3 is matt, not glossy?
-
Yes it is Matte. But gorgeous.

would a pic show it off ?

I have a 1080p Aw15r2 and 17r3. The 15 is noticeably dimmer and the colors are warmer and somewhat muted. The colors on the 17 are more AMOLED in nature and really pop. Both are matte. Although the 15 is not as bad as others make it out to be, the 17 is much better. In honesty, if I didn't have a 17, then I would think the 15 was fine so it really is up to you. 4k is a whole different story. From what I hear, those screens are best, but I personally don't like scaling that much and rather keep it at 1080p where I can set it to 100% and not worry about things looking off.
Size wise, the 17 is not that much bigger. Thickness is the same.

Any idea if the AW 15 R2 UHD has PWM? the 17 R3 doesnt but i cant find a single review about the AW 15, they have different displays (300-400 nits)
-
@SaturnARG I dont know what PWM is, so I will leave that to someone else, but I do know that the AW15's that are currently shipping have 220nit FHD screens and 300nit 4K screens if that helps.

My AW17 FHD screen has been fine, although it seems it might be a bit dim for some people. The quality is great though, much better then my previous Sager screen.
-
I think the 17's are ok as the FHD screen on those is 300nits. Although to be fair it is also a larger screen, so that may be why it needs to be brighter.soulvengeance likes this.

I have the 17 4k screen, matte, best screen ever laid eyes on. Almost to bright for me at max, daytime 50% and nighttime 0% and unless I'm gaming or working with dark screena I have to remain unplugged. Example Internet exploring at night, 0% plugged in to bright, have to have 0% and battery.
Not saying this is bad at all, just saying brightness rocks.
Picture quality amazing.
