Okay guys I really could use your help in choosing if I do a repaste or not. I bought an alienware r4 from best buy last week in the U.S. and ran some tests to see if I got the high temps in the cores or differentials. These where my temps after running OCCT for 30 mins without undervolting: http://imgur.com/a/HcFHV Later I did some tests undervolting to -0.150v and these where the results: http://imgur.com/a/EMF2y

I thought they where fine and even played watchdogs 2 and the temps never really got higher than 82 degrees. But yesterday I installed the witcher 3 and played for an hour or so running HWiNFO64 and when I saw my temps I got a max temp of 94 in core 0 and 91 in core 1 with some temps differentials of 13 degrees. The average temps where fine for all cores: 82 76 80 73.

So my question is, Do I need a repaste? I got really scared after seeing those temps. I would return this laptop but I'm from Guatemala an bought it the last day that I was in the U.S. So my only options right now is to do a repaste for my self or leave it that way.

If I do leave it that way: How much time will I enjoy this Laptop without a problem? I'm a casual gamer and never really play a lot when I'm at the university but for vacations I play all day long. If I do a repaste: 1. Can I get some tips for doing it?. (I already saw the post in notebook forums so I will be using that as a guide) 2. Can I get a list of all the things i need? Also I would like you to recommend me things like anti static wrist bands and magnetic screwdrivers

i'm kind of lost in what to do and I could really use some help.

Witcher uses both more CPU and GPU than watchdogs. Since the heat pipes are shared, you will see high temps. But your temps (while not damaging yet) are very high.

I would repaste and put proper thermal pads (with such a high differential you most likely have the wrong size pads, which Dell has fixed only recently), plenty of guides on the forum for repasting the AW 17 R4.

It sounds like you mostly have it figured out. If you cannot return it, pasting and perhaps swapping out thermal pads it what you can do. Lapping might help a little, not a lot. It doesn't sound like you have much experience, so I would say stay away from CLU or other liquid metals. They would help temps the most, but won't do you good if it burns out the mother board our other component. Thermal grizzly kryonaut, gelid gc extreme, or ic diamond (ICD) are the best thermal pastes. Magnetic screwdrivers aren't needed, just handy. Same with anti-static wrist/ankle strap, although it is preferred and you should ground yourself and discharge potential static electricity before beginning. You'll need 90% isopropyl alcohol (70% works in a pinch, but the higher evaporates quicker and less potential residue), a rag, paper towel, Q-tips, or something similar, and the paste. You remove the screws, clean both heatsink and the CPU and GPU with the alcohol (make sure not to leave bits of paper towel or hairs from the cotton on the Q-tip on the surfaces). Apply the thermal paste. Return the heatsink and screws.

Now, although in the 90s, it is lower than alienware's guidance on how hot it can run, so it is up to you. If done wrong, your temps could go up.

It seems that you have a lot of experience doing this, I was reading the guide from iunlock and I was wondering what happened if I broke the wifi cables? Can I manually repair it?

If you break the wifi cable you can claim a nonworking component in the system and Dell will send a tech to you (after you say you have tried everything they suggest, deny the remote access).

This is a known defect in the 1535 cards that break really easily.

If you send it to one of four team LHz member, we can do a repaste service for you without worrying about the wifi wires.

I would love to send it to the LHz members but the problem is that I live in Guatemala and Send it to the us would be as expensive as buying a laptop, and i'm not traveling any time soon. I was wondering what happens if I leave my system like this? How much time do you think it will work fine?

The 90 degrees will have been a spike before the fans spun up. Did you update the bios/what bios number are you running?

I updated them to 1.08 I think, but I felt that my computer was better with the 1.02 bios
