I don't know if the 120Hz Screen on my AW 15 R3 is faulty

    Hi all,

    I have just received my outlet refurbished AW 15 R3 which comes with a 120Hz N+WVA Anti-Glare 400-nits Display

Lets just say I am not sure the screen looks right ....

The glow/halo on the (desktop background) Alien head just does not look right at all. The same jpeg file looks astonishing on my Macbookpro or 1stgen/latest gen XPS

I'll see if i can get an image up....

Do I have a faulty panel or this is simply the downside of an anti-glare screen?

Is there a colour profile I can use?

Also what is the best way to check I dont have temperature issues?

    many thanks

IPS screens have superior colour and black levels to TN panels like the 120hz one in the 15r3. It'll never look as good as an XPS display

I guess I should have researched this before I purchased.

Is it possible for me to replace my 120Hz TN panel with an IPS one?, I am hoping I can find one on ebay ...

If you can find a 15 inch G-SYNC display it shouldn't be too difficult to switch them

    Hi Onetwo,
    My screen is 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 120Hz TN+WVA Anti-Glare 400-nits NVIDIA G-SYNC Enabled Display

Is there some other hardware dependency or could I not use any of the 2 below :-
    (1) 15.6 inch UHD (3840 x 2160) IGZO IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display
    (2) 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display

There does not appear to be any other G-SYNC display in the Alienware lineup as far as i can see

The IPS in the Alienwares with the 7820hk should be g sync, all the gsync laptops have a different motherboard to the non g sync models; the GPU is connected directly to the display. If you were to use a non gsync display you'd be getting the drawbacks of gsync like low battery life without any benefits

thanks for the clarification, this does not appear to be an option in the UK, So hoping someone reading might have a link or model number on the unit I will need

    Cheers

I'm in the UK too, you can get a g sync IPS on the 15r3, I've only checked the model with the 7820 and 1070 though, I'm not sure about other ones. If you're still within the return period you can always return and try the IPS screen, it'll be closer to your XPS display. Either way I hope you find what you're looking for!
