that the trackpad in the new AW17 still sucks?

I had a i7/780M AW17 and problem with the trackpad is it couldn't handle keyboard inputs at the same time as directional inputs, i.e., you couldn't use it with FPS's because once you started moving in a direction with a keyboard press, you couldn't look/fire with the pad.

The same problem exists in the new AW17.

Seriously? No one complained about this or Dell just chose to ignore it?

It renders this 'gaming' laptop useless without an external mouse.

People use the trackpad with FPS's?

My reasoning is "gamers" tend to use mouses because of more precision than a track pad, so that's probably why.

Why don't you Google something before ranting lol?

There are numerous topics on how to fix this, and guess what....it's not the touchpad.

    1. Open Synaptics Touchpad properties (right click on the synaptics icon in the taskbar and click properties) -> Find palm rejection and uncheck turn on.

    2. Open start menu / screen and search for mouse -> click mouse and touchpad settings -> Under touchpad set it to "No Delay (always on)"

There you go, your problem is fixed and now you can use both the keyboard and the touchpad at the same time.

This fixes it on the Alienware R1 as well. It's a Synaptics driver setting, not the actual touchpad and it applies to any laptop that uses a Synaptics touchpad (which both the R1 and the R2 do).

I'm still puzzled how someone can use a touchpad for an FPS

I use mine for it haha

It's not as accurate as a mouse, obviously, but I do pretty well with it. Just took quite a bit of practice.

99% of the time, I never use the pad. :D

It's just when I am traveling and have a few minutes to jump into Titanfall or something else, the issues with the pad make me a crazy person.

Thanks for the tip. That worked.

BTW - I almost never use the built-in keyboard/mouse. I use my 27" iMac as an external monitor via MiniDP and a Corsair Vengeance Keyboard and Mouse.

That's awesome :) We're glad it was just a setting in the Touchpad driver rather than a non-functional touchpad.
