Hi all, I'm having trouble with the charger cord for my 17. When it is plugged into the computer, if it is not sitting just right, or if I am not sort of pushing on it in a certain direction, the computer acts like it is not plugged in. How can I tell if the issue is the power cord, or if it is the connector in the computer that it plugs into???

    Help, and thanks!

You can get another power cable to connect to the brick and test it, that is the easiest way. I dont have mine in front of me but i think it just a regular PC power cable.

It can either be the plug on the power adapter or the receptacle on the laptop.

If you can get your hands on a spare power adapter from another Dell laptop to test, you can rule out the receptacle on the laptop. Just make sure the adapter you get is at least the same amount of watts as the original.

If the receptacle is the problem, you can replace it. It is a separate unit that plugs in to the motherboard so it should be cheap and easy to change.

If you are under warranty, just call Dell.

If your machine has a warranty I could send a replacement for any of those 2 components. Send me a PM if that's the case. If not, taking it to a tech or local repair shop should do it.
