Hi all. I have just replaced my 1080p screen for the 4K. All went well and i'm very pleased with it.
The issue is, I was under the impression that this screen could run at 30hz refresh rate (dell told me this). When I check in display properties, it only goes down to 48hz.
If anyone with 4k display is able to check what refresh rate they can go down to and report back, that would be great. Maybe its a driver issue?

    Many thanks

Ok so... Why on Earth do you want a lower refresh rate? I tried and tried but can't think of a single reason.

pretty much this. 30hz on windows desktop look shorrible. even 48hz is terrible when you are actually moving the mouse. For videogames just enable vsync and because it cannot hit 60fps it will hit 30fps instead constantly.

Have you tried putting in a custom resolution in Intel HD Graphics Control Panel?
Go to Display -> Custom resolution. There you can put in a custom resolution with a custom refresh rate.
    See if that works.

This doesn't work for me? Doesn't limit it to 30fps? How do I force this?

I'm with you, there is no reason I can think of to want to tone down the refresh rate of a big beautiful screen... Especially, with the setup he has.

It would be purely for gaming because 30fps with v-sync on looks smoother on 30hz than it does on 60hz. Thats my reason. I have a 980ti which runs games at 30fps when at 4k ultra settings on most games. Its still playable but could be smoother with 30hz!

60 and 48 are all I get. And I agree with the others that this is a crazy idea.

Thanks for checking. Its not a crazy idea. If your monitor refreshes at the same rate as the GPU, it produces a smoother result than if your monitor refreshes 60fps and your GPU renders 53fps. That causes a stutter in the frame rate.
Playing Hitman, for example. 4k res and all on ultra, I get around 40 - 50 FPS and it has more stutter than if I limit the FPS to 30. BUT if your monitor refreshes at 30 aswell as your GPU, it would be a smoother experience again.
I would only use 30hz for gaming in 4k. Not for anything else!
