I have received my new AW17 R3 this week - which is awesome! However, the 256mb ssd it came with just isn't enough for my requirements as I need somewhere to dump my steam library and would rather not do it on the hdd (want to keep that for file storage).

I'm thinking of adding a Samsung SM951 (for budget reasons I can't stretch to the 950pro) but I am concerned about the heat impact on the laptop as I have read these drives can get quite hot.

I do a lot of gaming, so the system does run quite hot anyway - what impact would a further ssd make on this?

Not a lot. You will feel a bit mor eheat under the trackpad. BUt there is a copper heatsink above the drives itself to keep it cool. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

I don't think the overall temp of the machine witll be highly affected by this upgrade. It'll likely not be noticeable.
