    Hi Guys,

I am having problems getting my inline mic to work on my headset with the combo jack.

It worked fine out of the box and gave a jack dialogue prompt when plugging in the headset.

I then did a fresh win 10 install and repad/paste and now I cant get the mic working in the headset jack.

It does work if I use a dual ended spliter and plug into both jacks.

I have tried everything, uninstalled all audio with revo with no internet connection restart then reinstall Dell Audio drivers and also tried drivers from Realtek direct.

Nothing makes the dialogue pop up happen and I think the jack thinks its just stuck in headphone mode.

All other solutions on the web point to Realtek HD Audio Manager and then fiddle with the jack input manually but we only have the Alienware Sound Center and is very limited to what it can do.

Any one come across this before or have any ideas tips ?

If its software I can live with it, but if it could be hardware I would like to know so I can get it fixed within the warranty period.

Its not life threatening just annoying,

    Thanks

I did have an issue wherein I shut down the PC with headphone and after removing the headphone internal speaker no longer worked. So, I shut down the system, then plugged the headphone back and windows was up and running. After launching Sound Blaster/AW Sound Command Center my internal speaker worked again.
Make sure you run the troubleshooting packs for audio provided by MSFT

so a little update I got.intouch with support and they walked me through uninstalling and reinstalling all audio drivers. This didnt do anything. then I tried putting the old ssd which still had the factory image on it and it worked headset microphone pop up when plugging in and mic coming through no probs.

so this must be software on the new ssd with fresh windows but I have no idea what is missing.

I don't really want to reinstall win 10 yet but glad it is not hardware related so can live with it for time being

but if anyone has any suggestions much appreciated

    thanks

Have you tried running audio troubleshooter in Windows?

Did you try installing the exact same driver version used in the factory image on your current installation? You can check the driver version in Device Manager.

yep tried all troubleshooting and no issue found. also installed same realtek driver on factory image, I updated it on factory image as well same file copied over to fresh ssd so not sure it's realtek maybe missing a chipset or something. one thing I haven't checked is version of Windows on factory maybe I updated fresh to creators and not factory it's definitely incomparability somewhere. Def not a massive issue but so annoying as fans are pretty loud and when ever I'm in team speak the squad knows it

This may sound silly, but have you made sure it is all the way in to the jack?

When I first got my AW 13 R3; the jack was so tight, it took an uncomfortable amount of force to make the jack go in the last 1.5 mm. The plastic of the jack should be almost flush with the laptop. I didn't realize this at first and just thought it had crappy sound

I think you start fresh or use the stock Dell OS till you get time to reinstall windows for redstone 3.

I had the same issue - uninstalling sound driver and reinstalling the latest one from the Dell website fixed it.
