    HELP SWAP: Alienware 18 R1 4800MQ GTX880 SLI 16GB to Alieware 17 R3 6820HQ GTX 980M 4GB, Worth it?

    One guy want to swap the alienware with me:

    My config:

    Alienware 18 R1 4800MQ
    -FHD Screen
    -GTX 880M SLI 16MB
    -16GB of ram
    -SSD Samgung 850 pro 512GB
    -HDD 700GB

    He config:

    Alienware 17 R3 6820HQ
    -4k Screen
    -GTX 980m 4GB
    -16 of ram
    -SSD m2 128GB
    -HDD 1TB

    I use my alienware 18 for autocad and graphics softwares and play some games. Worth get this alienware 17 ? because my alienware is little old, SO BIG and heavy and i dont know if my laptop have i good value.

    The 980m was a pretty big jump in performance over the 880m. But in sli the 880m still seems to outperform the 980m. But that’s gaming related.

    But you’re getting a 4K display on the 17” and a two generation newer cpu. Productivity wise that would be good for your Autocad work if you don’t use external monitors.

    It’s a bit of a toss up in my eyes. The 18” Alienware’s are kinda unique since that size isn’t made anymore. I think I’d lean trading it for the newer cpu and better screen though.

    You can upgrade the 18 to 980M SLI lol

    From a performance standpoint it isn't much of an upgrade.

    BUT you get the amplifier port so you can add an amplifier and add like a Quadro GPU in the future as well.

    4K screen is also nice.

    It's a tough call but the trade isn't one sided so it's fine either way you go

    The 18 was known to have motherboard failures so idk
