Hi guys, I recently "upgraded" to windows 10 but it wasn't until today that I was able to play some games on my AW15, thing is I was hyped when I did read some guys saying they saw an increase in FPS in some games so of course I wanted to try it out. All the settings from w8.1 were saved so I ran the in-game benchmark utility and I was shocked of the performance decrease in the exactly same settings. 1 week ago under the same settings GTA used to run mostly at 60 fps, never lower than 58, sometimes 62 so it was a pretty solid performance. After I saw the terrible FPS in comparison I ran onto dell's site to download and install the latest W10 drivers to see it that could make a difference. It didn't but not only that, I ran the benchmark again and saw some major stuttering and glitches.
Here's a video where you can observe what I mean, the TERROR begins around the 2 minute mark:
I'll see if I can get it to work like before with an older Nvidia driver but in the meantime I'd like to encourage you guys both with the GTX970m and GTX980m models to run some games in order to detect problems like me...
Install windows 10 they said, it'll be cool and safe they said....

At least you can run it!!
I keep having crashing issues with GTA V and FIFA 15, after 3/4 min of play all my games stop working and I got an error message...
Everything works fine, except the games!!
FIFA lags heavily at start, same with GTA V..
My nVidia driver are the latest, and I also installed the latest DX 9, have no idea why this is happening.. -

By the way, I am running a fresh install of windows 10. -
i didnt have any lag or stuttering running gta v on a alienware 17 r2 with a gtx 970m 3gb . 60+ fps all the time on windows 10 x64 ....
the only problem that i have is the games crash sometime with the D3D error that everyone's get (i think thats a driver problem)

no problems with w10 whatsoever except for the sd card reader not being able to read a card rofl

... whatever it is, I don't run/buy/upgrade when things have just come out. Perhaps you should follow that as well.
You would be the guinea pigs of the new technology. -
Try rolling back to driver 352.84.

UPDATE////
So I ran the GeForce experience software and a pop up about a fotware update appeared so I updated it and I've seen better performance and 0 stuttering so far, it still ain't the performance level as last week when on w8.1 but its close, most of the time the fps counter is at 60 but I see some 49's (on 8.1 the worst number was 57 I believe) but nothing really below that, I hope I can get it to work as well as before before my copy of MGSV arrives .ExMM likes this. -
Rolled back to the previous 352.84 drivers, stutter gone finally but not crashing.
Still the same, after 2/3 min of play all my games stop working.
I guess I have to reinstall windows from scratch again.... -
-
uninstalled the driver using DDU , re-installed 352.84 and all is well.
Also, remember to use the tool that stops automatic GPU updates from WU. Because Windows 10 forces auto updates, and apparently Nvidia drivers and WU GPU updates don't get along well.
Anything before/after 352.84 causes major throttling for me. -
SOLVED
Just reinstall a fresh copy of windows 10 was enough, no more crashes, but with the latest nvidia driver performance is still crap.. -
This is due to the fact that the "free upgrade" does not actually tell you what the key product key is thus making it seem like the only way to do the free upgrade is via Windows update or via a media disc installed over top of an existing OS installation.
Well... It seems there is a legit way to get this done with the "free upgrade"
First you must upgrade your Windows via the Windows update or by using the MS media creation tool to download an iso etc.
The once Windows 10 is installed.. Use https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ to find out what your windows 10 key is.
Then burn a DVD of windows 10 and do a clean install like normal.

Yes, you need first to upgrade your old windows version, but once it's upgraded your computer ID will be registered with Microsoft server as a windows 10 user.
Anytime you will reinstall a fresh copy of windows 10 (on the same computer) your windows will be activated automatically online.
In the case you will buy a new computer, I am not sure, but I guess only then, you will need to backup your product key or simply call microsoft for a phone activation. -

I guess now I have to wait for a new nvidia drivers or roll back and testing the old ones...
GTA V after Windows10, a sad story.... (gtx970m)
