    I got my replacement 15" R3 today with a better (not perfect, but acceptable) screen. The first one was exchanged due to severe light bleed on the 4K IPS panel, and although it had some uneven core temps, it never went passed 85C and hovered at 75 in gaming. This new one shuts down while gaming, bench marking, etc.. Like RIGHT AWAY. Ran some quick OCCT testing and in 2s, it hits over 95C and stops the test (cores are also uneven). It's useless.

    What's with these guys (Dell/Alienware)? Do I try a third or just refund? Part of me is wondering if I should keep the first one (with really bad light bleed) it they maybe send me an external gaming monitor (although it will probably have light bleed!).

    I know your not gonna like this, but I'd recommend getting something else if you aren't into tinkering yourself. The Aorus X5 has been consistently good. Has a 1620p display now and a 120Hz 1080p one coming soon.

    AW really messed up this generation. Taking it apart and repasting/mounting the heatsink is what I'd recommend to experience users.

    You're right on two counts: I don't like the suggestion ;) and Alienware (Dell) has messed up:

    I'm a first time buyer. I've been searching for a laptop for a while. Last year I purchased an XPS13, but returned that due to QC issues related to the case (the fake carbon fibre sticker on the palm rest was peeling, they offered nothing but a refund).

    This year I wanted to get back into gaming. I work at a company that is serviced by Dell, we have decent employee purchase programs so I decide to give Dell another chance and dive into and Alienware laptop. While waiting for the unit to arrive, I see all these posts about light bleed on pretty much all the panels as well as overheating issues with the i7 processors. My first unit is spared the overheating but has significant light bleed. I can't accept that on a laptop of this price. Initiate return. I will say the the AW/Dell CS reps are very nice and accommodating. They also doubled my RAM for the trouble.

    Then I see posts about the AW CEO owning up to "some" issues that have now been corrected (less than 1%). I must be the "luckiest" guy on earth then because I've got two messed up units from this 1%. I'll be playing a lotto ticket tonight to see how lucky I really am...

    At the price I have paid for this unit and considering I like Dell/AW service and warranty, I like the way the laptop looks and is built and the available options, I am not interested in any other units right now. It seems my options are really limited;

    I could roll the dice and try another unit; or
    I could return and refund (but as mentioned, there's no other laptop for me)

    This really sucks. I'll probably never buy another Dell / Alienware again...

    I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh at the level of incompetence Alienware holds these days after reading the title.

    This is very unfortunate. Hopefully they work with you and resolve this issue. My recommendation is to request a full refund! Don't get caught in a loop.

    My concern is that I got a great deal that has since expired and I wouldn't buy this at the regular price... If I return, I lose all of that and am uninterested in any other brand other than Razer but they're even more expensive...plus I hear their service is terrible...

    Basically, I'm out of PC gaming as a Desktop is not an option for me...

    I've replied to you in private conversation. I don't mind sharing but perhaps we should make it publicly posted.

    Thanks.

    Fair enough. I posted a thread of what my configuration was and the cost. I didn't get a code, but I got a killer deal from calling and talking to some reps.
