Just picked up a new Alienware 15 with an i7 and 970m, loving it so far!

In one of the promo videos the alienware rep mentioned teh system will overclock with an i7 and amp setup. Every time I check cpu-z when a game is running, it seems to be stuck @ 2.5ghz.

What settings do I need to make sure cpu is overclocked when the Alienware 15 is attached to the graphics amplifier. Right now CPU-Z is showing 2.5ghz stock speed.

I checked the bios for the graphics amp setting, but couldn't tell exactly what I needed to modify.

    Current Setup:

    Alienware 15 2015 i7-4710

EVGA GTX 970 inside the alieneware graphics amp

    8gb stock ddr.

    Thank you!

I think you can enable or check that in the BIOS, and enable overclock level 1.

Thanks, I set that, but it's still showing 2.5 in cpu-z.

    I haven't modified the values.

It doesn't let me manipulate the values for the clock in the bios. Any other suggestions?

I didn't have issues with the GA overclocking. Maybe its cpu-z not detecting the clock properly. Try Hwinfo or one of those cpu meter desktop gadgets.

Try disabling the overclock options, test, and then enable them. The OC options seem to be buggy.

Can you use another program to actually chart the frequency rather than just relying on CPU-Z?

I double this. I think the CPU-Z is showing the CPU it's factory clock frequency, since even if it isn't overclocked, It should be still higher than 2.5 due to Turbo boost. Use a program like open hardware monitor, which can also plot your cpu clock frequencies and temperatures in a graph.

By the way, I'm pretty sure the overclocking is enabled by default in the BIOS, In my case it was default set to overclock to 4.0GHz when AMP is connected. But I disabled it since I don't use an AMP.
In case your CPU is still not reaching higher clocks. You can see in the bios by spamming the 'F2' button while your PC boots, if it's enabled or not.

This is what did it! It wasn't working with it 'enabled' in the bios, but cpu-z and 3d mark were reporting stuck @ 2.5ghz. Turning it off in bios, turns it on.

you need to turn speed step back on is why its stuck at 2,5 turn it back on and you will be able to get it to over clock
