Ordered 17" UHD 7820HK 1070 laptop on Feb. 8. Estimated delivery date was Feb. 17 - Feb. 27. When I spoke with person while placing order, she sad that laptop will arrive sooner then later. I contacted Dell on 15th and was told that they missing 1 part that suppose to arrive from China. Fast forward to today and I just got a following message from Dell: Sorry for the delay in response. Below is the update we have from the fulfillment center.

This order is currently on an global engineering hold due to an issue involving the LCD and bezel with a tentative resolution date of 2/22.

The estimated delivery however remains still 27-Feb. I will continue to follow up on this order and keep you posted as soon as I hear back from the team. Is there anybody who know what is this hold is about? Or they just bullshitting me?

It could be that they are updating the LCD bezel to prevent lightbleed. Which was a major issue with the UHD screen. Cross your fingers on getting no lightbleed.

I was getting an exchange and I was downgraded to the 1920x1080 IPS gsync monitor because they won't have the UHD monitors for 2 months from what the rep told me that engineering told him. I did get an upgrade to the i7-7820hk from the i7-6820hk.

My rigs ordered on the 02/02/2017 (i7-6820HK 1080GTX QHD) with the first EDD 22/02/2017, shifted 01/03/2017, and now, after calling the customer service rep I found out that there is an engineering hold on my rigs.
Ordered 2, one for me and the other for the wife...

Situation was that on the Dell automated hotline the statement was made that the machines were done, and were going to be delivered the 23rd, however there was no change on the orderstatus webpage, still stating the 1st of March.
When confirming with a customer rep. which is correct, I was given the information that there is an Engineering Hold on the machines. They are checking which component is causing the delay at the moment.

I made my third order on 1/10 for the 1080gtx and just finally cancelled the order after 8 delays, and continuously getting lied to about the status. they are not going to be shipping out any more 6820/gtx1080 models

    They are shipping them.

Matter of fact, they have the parts in and the build time has been updated from 21-25 business days to 11-15 business days.

    You're welcome.

wow that is some bs. I had my order in for a month and a half, with delay after delay. They emailed me multiple times telling me basically, I need to cancel my order, and now as soon as I cancel it, they are shipping them again.....I cant even count the hours I have spent on the phone and on chat with them over the last 3 months because of the ridiculous customer service they have. I really wish there was another company with the same build quality as them. I would jump ship in a heartbeat, but i don't want to settle for a worse machine for more money

Just an update: During my call to customer support, they said even with hold my laptop will be shipped on 24th. So when I called them yesterday, 24th, at night, they give me a new excuse saying that parts are missing now again. This some frikking ******** on part of Dell. Estimated delivery date still shows as 27th, but if it wont be here on 27th I cancelling the order. I did not pay 2300 dollars for Dell to keep bullshitting me. And the most ****ied up part is I cancelled my flight and moved it from 27th to 2nd by paying 150$ extra. **** you Dell!

This is the same reason that I canceled my order and nabbed a refurb off the outlet. It even arrived the next day with 2 day shipping. Craziness

Is yours already shipped? Called today in my case they said the engineering hold was released on my AW 17's. Unfortunately there is not really an outlet in Sweden, so I need to hold out for a bit.

Hello! I just checked the status on Dell website and it says: "Your custom-built item is complete."
From here I am not sure how long it will take to be delivered, but I have next day air for this order. Customer service also agreed to apply 10% military discount retrospectively.
Hope it gets to me by 2nd of March,

Sweet! Yeah I noticed on my 15R3 that the charge hold disappeared and my order says "Your custom-built item is complete." Normally in the past that usually means that it will ship anyday. I am hoping maybe today is the day.

I ordered mine on the 8th as well, and it was supposed to be delivered today, but no update in shipping dates, or tracking info. I contacted dell on Friday just because i was getting a feeling it would be delayed and the chat rep said
"I sincerely regret the delay on the order. There has been an unexpected delay due to part constraints."
No eta, or anything though.. I was going to just go through the outlet but for some reason change my mind at the last minute and went with new.. Now I'm regretting it a bit.

Update 3/3/17: Engineering hold to fix backlight bleed my a$$ . Just received my system with 4K screen and it is going back to Dell. I wanted to give them a chance, after reading all the horror stories. But having such a bad quality control and having crazy backlight bleed is frikkin ridiculous. Dell get the head out of your back and fix these issues.
Can you please advise on fastest way to exchange my unit to a new one?

That is why I decided to go for a non-UHD based on the comments here before ordering. QHD or FHD were my only considerations. Reviews on the 4K panel were not good (at least the jury was still out at the time of me ordering) so I did not take any chances. Especially with the long hold on these things in production. Sending it in to repair might cause another delay, I would suggest a swap if possible. Call them up and see what they can do for you. Go for the QHD, or get a refund.
