I am not a happy camper. I dropped my laptop today moving from one location to another. I already contacted support but I'm concerned about their turn around time and my soon to expire warranty. The laptop doesn't turn on at all. I have full accidental coverage but I'm mostly concerned about the possibility of whatever is used to fix/replace whatever is broken.. breaking again with the expiration around the corner. Is this a circumstance where they may replace the unit? Does anyone have experience with this? Is there a timeframe to extend the warranty a short time after it expires? If so I may do that if I am eligible.

Sorry to hear about your laptop. But give yourself a pat on the back for taking out that accidental damage cover.
Don't worry about replacement kit, it's either new or factory refurb and will have been tested.
Many companies will have a grace period for repair satisfaction but you really need to discuss these concerns with AW Support directly to get a proper answer. I've found them to be a helpful and genuine bunch so be honest and ask what you can expect from them if you report an additional problem outside of warranty likely to have been caused by the accident which wasn't addressed by their initial repair during the warranty period. They may consider it a special circumstance or offer you the opportunity to purchase a warranty extension, who knows.
Good luck! -
Thank you for giving me some reassurance. Never had anything like this happen to me before so I am pretty freaked out! It is my main pc too. I will follow up with support once I get it sent in since they said they would contact me. I have really bad shakes due to health problems so I probably should't have been carrying it up the stairs but no helping that now.
Seriously thank you for the suggestions, I never would have thought to ask about what to do if there were additional problems. -
I had a situation where my sister inlaw's laptop had a bad motherboard 12 hours before her warranty was set to expire. They handled the situation for a couple weeks after replacing multiple parts, eventually fixing it.
If there is a lot of damage to the case and several internal components they will replace the whole thing. -
Wow that's actually really impressive! And yeah, I left it plugged in and tried to turn it on again.. the fans still flipped out but I was able to bring up the diagnostics. There's no HDD detected in the diagnostics so I have no clue what all is wrong with it. I'm really glad I'd backed up due to upgrading to win 10 this week though. Thanks again for giving me a response. I was so anxious and freaked out about it because I've taken so much care with my laptop because I invested a lot in it and it's something I use all the time.

I wish you luck with the people you talk to behind the line That sucks that that happened :/ I remember when I was in my Senior year in HS I accidentally yanked the power chord of my m11x with my foot and it fell 5 feet to the cement floor. The back vent's plastic partially cracked but surprisingly nothing else did owo (probably because the metal construction of the sides and bottom plate).
As DeeX said, if so many things are broken or not functioning correctly they'd replace the whole system, it's cheaper for them to do so at that point.
Hope you get it all back to good shapeLast edited: May 23, 2016 -
I got everything put in the box and ready to go... just need to get the pickup scheduled to return it. Unfortunately, calling fed-ex's support line for scheduling pick up after midnight is a test of endurance. I think I'll try calling in the morning instead. The CSR argued with me that the barcode on my label had a number below it even though I tried to explain it was blank. *rubs temples* What's a gal to do? The online schedule app doesn't work for it either. I feel like I'm hitting my head against the wall talking with these people. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
I took photos of all the damage. It's a lot worse than I thought. I was halfway up the second flight of stairs here so it kinda.. fell a good distance >_<; but I figured I should take photos of all the damage before I shipped it off just in case. Hopefully I'll have a good update soon. Dell was great when I called in, absolutely no complaints about that. I'm going to contact them with some of my questions and concerns as well once I get this shipped off.guttsy likes this. -
Well, I got my laptop back today and it seems mostly fixed.. though the screen is completely loose from the casing around the lid in a wide 1.5" area and bends away from the unit. I tried to snap it back in place (gently!!) but no go, and one of the fans is making a weird whine when I'm gaming. I sent a message into tech support via email. Today is the last day of my warranty though so I'm not sure if I should call in or what.

you should have taken it back up the stairs and dropped it down again...

Call and E-mail. So you can get there attention ASAP as well as have proof that you submitted the problem if issues arise due to ending warranty..
