To help others you may consider changing the title of this thread a bit, MyFixGuide has disassembly guides not only for AW15, but also for Alienware 13, 18, 14, 17, M18x, and other Dell notebooks.

Looking at that guide, it seems that when they get to the removal of the motherboard, they switched to a aw17?
If you notice the motherboard once removed, has 4 m.2 slots....

It is aw15 board, for some reason we can't use those m2 slot, there is bottom base blocking it, unless you have some sort of cable to connect & hold the m.2 ssd? [IMG] [IMG]

Does that mean the whole motherboard has to be removed to do the yearly re-paste?

    That doesn't seem fun.

So, if you were to cut away all the metal, remove the 2.5 inch drive, you could in theory run 4 m2 drives.... did they ever fix the lack of raid?

    Yea.....

Possible but I'm not sure if those slot really works. I'm waiting to receive my m.2 connector to try it out. raid? I believe aw15/17 don't have raid option, its not about fix.

The motherboard is identical between the 15 and 17, the casing can't cram everything in so some of the ports are blocked off in the 15.

This helps Dell consolidate their manufacturing and will save a LOT of money. Which is likely the thinking behind it.

There is no RAID as Dell sells no AW15 and AW17 R2 units with RAID configurations, therefore they have zero reason to support it.

Is there a trick to get the service cover off? I took the 2 screws out and the cover wont budge. There is s nothing to grab a hold of it with, I'm afraid to pry it out because I don't want to gouge the plastic.

It won't impact users much but there is the potential for mods or easier parts replacement.

Use a plastic scribe, Popsicle stick, or old credit card type thing. Get it in the crack and slide it along the length of each side.

Frustration and rushing is never a good idea with notebooks ;) Best thing to stop rather than forcing your way in and snapping something.
