Hi everyone
Just wanted some advice on undervolting. I have a 8750h with 1070 and temps at normal usage are pretty fine ranging from 45-58.
I started playing wildlands and noticed that the fan was running at 100 so checked temps with HWInfo.
I found that with the power saver power mode on the multiplier was limited to 22x and temps are fine during the game (they reach high 80s.
When I use balanced power mode it uses the full 39-41x but the temps are high - 95-99 and thermal throttling.
I undervolted using XTU by -100mv ( think thats right) and the temps dropped quite a bit.
My questions are:
1. the undervolt doesnt stick using XTU. I tried the method on the other thread but every time i run stage 4 as admin it shows the script permission as no. Im obviously doing something wrong?
2. When I applied the undervolt is unlocked the multiplier to 41x. Before that the balanced power mode always ran at 22x (2.2ghz)
3. Is using throttlestop a better way of doing it compared to XTU that sticks permanantly? I'd rather have a relatively simple undervolt that sticks. Im not so keen on reducing the multiplier unless its essential.. right?
And finally.. When i benchmark or run the stress test in XTU the temps are better than when im running the game... that cant be right can it?
Thanks for your help in advance.

I like throttle stop more than xtu. You can use different profiles with different clocks and undervolts.
Lower temps with xtu stress is normal since your CPU and GPU share the same heatsink.Last edited: Jul 9, 2018cn555ic likes this. -
with the XTU script method you have to make sure it runs with highest privileges, i also had to change the user of the script to match my user iirc, which is the admin of the pc in my case, you can also get a extra temp drop by undervolting the cache alongside the core, i have -150mv on core and cache on my 6700hq, different cpu ofcourse so your mileage will vary. i tried throttlestop in the past, but went XTU when i discovered throttlestop had a built in expiry date on it (it gets annoying having to update it everytime and transfer settings over)

I've finally got the undervolt of - 0.100mv in cpu and cache. Limited the multiplier to 37x on 6 cores
Just wanted to ask... When I'm not on mains power it seems to limit the multiplier to 18x so it's 1.8ghz
Why is this... Due to speedstep or undervolt /power throttling?
It works fine with cool temps under load max of 88/90 -
might be due to ur power settings possibly, undervolt shouldnt cause it, id double check those first

Check version history for 8.60. It says he remade 8.50 to remove expiry and 8.60 also has this removed

EDIT: so i experimented with the analog I/O and system agent, managed to achieve -110mv stable on them, but noticed no temp difference, so i just stuck with my original -150 on core and cache only, i did go higher on those too, but it resulted in instabilityLast edited: Jul 17, 2018
