    Hi all. I have managed to source the 4k screen and display EDP cable for the 4k screen. I have been in touch will Alienware technical and they say the bezel (as far as they know) is the same for the 1080p and 4k screens.
    Are there any other differences before I strip down and perform this operation on my laptop?

    Many thanks

    1080p = 30 pin

    4k = 40 pin

    If you have the 4k cable, you should be good to go as the plugs are the same, but the pins inside the plug are 10 less for the 1080p and 10 more for the 4k..

    Contacted the person selling the screen and they had it listed seperately. Got it on ebay

    define screen... Just the LCD ? The biggest pro on the screen change, is going to be the brightness, you're going to nearly double the brightness. Congrats!

    The R2 should have a brightness of 200 nits, but the R3 (@ FHD) should already be 300 nits. The UHD on the R3 should be 400 nits. Should be brighter, but only by 1/3 more.

    How is the color in terms of yellow? I heard the UHD screen has a yellow tinge because it is optimized for videos. How do you find the scaling? I read about blurry scaling issues with the UHD as well...

    So.... I'm very very particular and I don't see the yellow. The screen looks perfect. As for the 300 nits vs 400 nits. I don't think its to do with actual brightness but more the colour. The colour difference between the FHD and UHD is insane.
    After using the UHD screen for about a month I put my FHD LCD back in because I THOUGHT I was seeing horribleness with the scaling but after doing so I realised that I was just got used to the UHD very quickly. Compared Hitman in 1080p on both screen and personally, I think it looked better on the UHD than the FHD and that was comparing the two within an hour. The colour is so much more there, its quite insane.

    I'm with everyone else... the COLOR accurancy is more than awesome on the UHD. And my mistake on the nits, whoever corrected me, you are absolutely correct, my apologies!

    I have the UHD also. It is an amazing screen for sure.
    I have used a spyder to calibrate it and found the calibration to be almost perfect out of the box. (I can upload a profile for this screen if anyone needs one)

    When gaming at 1080p on the 4K, as long as I sit about 2 -3 feet away i cannot notice the blurry bilinear scaling and it looks just as good if not better than the native 1080p 17" display at this distance.

    I have 2 profiles.

    1 is calibrated at 6500k and the other at the screens native white balance. Try them both and you decide which is better for you.

    How do you apply these profiles? When I add them in colour management, I don't see any difference at all? I'm sure it just isn't changing.

    Thanks a'lot :)

    Ah. I figured it out... Thanks for the profiles? What do you use the profiles for? Gaming? Everyday use?
