Dell outlet listing Alienware 15R2 without specific GPU

So i saw that the outlet was selling some Alienware 15R2 yesterday at up to 40% off and was checking it out when i saw this config:

Alienware 15R2 - Outlet new
32Gb Ram, IGZO IPS Screen 300-nits
Intel i7-6820HK, 256SSD + 1 TB HDD

Listed at about $1389 With premium support... maybe that can be removed later

Strange thing is that it does not list a GPU

So i thought, it has to have one, so i checked the power supply and it comes with a 240W so
am I correct in assuming this actually comes with a GTX980?

If that is the case this is a killer deal and I did pull the trigger just in case.
They do list other model but as soon as the GPU is listed, the laptop price shoots up

it could come with any gpu

 

True, but the one i have that came with the GTX970m only came with a 180W power supply so i am hopeful... I should know by Friday when it comes . Wondering if anyone ordered one of those or ever ordered an Alienware without the GPU listed... it's kind of strange that they would not list the GPU...

 

why are you buying this one when pascal arrives at september 1?

quickly say to the dell rep that it sucks and request a return (they have to pay shipping back)

 

Are they coming out with the Alienware models soon? Yeah, i had a feeling they were offloading older stuff and new stuff would be coming out soon, but if it has the GTX980m at this price, is it still a bad deal in your opinion? I don't feel like spending over $1500 for anything newer...

Thanks, Indeed saw the info about the new alienware coming out soon. Don't know at what price though... i am afraid they are going to be quite expensive at first and out of the outlet for a while...

1060 laptop can be had for just a bit more than that

1060 is 5% behind a GTX 980 (non-M) notebook

 

If it doesn't list a GPU, then it's probably the R9 m395x (the GTX 970m isn't an option when getting the i7-6820HK processor).

amd gpu on a gaming laptop is the biggest crap I've ever seen from the echo models

 

Actually my money is that it is a 980m, I got one before like that and with the 240w power it was a 980m.

 

I hope it's that too. i don't think they are selling this model with the Radeon any more since it's an outlet new it should be a model with the 980m... Unless they have been hording old stock somewhere and are getting rid of them...

Unfortunately it is an AMD card. There was a short discussion about this in the 15R2 owner's lounge thread. Where it lists "AM" signifies that it is an AMD card. If it was the 980m it would list "GX" instead. I made the same mistake and purchased one with the AMD thinking it was the 980m but fortunately I was able to return it without any hassle.

 

Noooooooo, my dreams are crushed! LOL... Oh well, it was worth a try... I'll return it as soon as I get it... It was such a great price...

 

Darn, was really hoping that was wth a 980m.

 

I'm bummed. I checked the item list of my 15R2 with GTX970m and there was the GX next to the CPU...

 

Someone on reddit said that he got a GTX980m with 8gb of ram and the part number for the i7-6700HQ was 661FN. Dell has one at $1819 with that specific part and GPU not listed... but crappy screen and rest pretty basic. I will wait and see what happens with the new devices on September 2nd...

also, do you think it's a good deal?
for ±200$ more you can get a 1070 equipped laptop (although with less RAM and not as strong a CPU)
