Hi
I've taken my 17R4 heat sink off and I'm just about to start the re-paste.
Quick question... How long does it take for the Conductonaut to set?
Do I have to hurry to spread the liquid metal over the CPU / GPU / heatsink? Or do I have like 30 mins?
Additionally, as soon as I get it back together can I turn the computer on? Or do I have to let it set first?

U have plenty of Time. There is nothing to be set... just spread it even and thin.
U can turn on the notebook after u have finished. No need for waitingLast edited: Dec 31, 2016Peter Major likes this. -
it doesn't set, there's no drying with conductonaut
even with traditional thermal paste, you can leave it out for hours and hours it will not dry (I don't recommend it though, do apply and put on the heatsink as fast as you can) -
It was harder to spread than I thought... weird consistency and it globs together.

Sweet!
Before the repaste, I could only run the OCCT test for 11 seconds before it hit the emergency stop due to CPU core temps (91C).
After the repaste with Conductonaut, CPU core temps don't go over 65C during the test!
I had the pre-December build of the 17 R4 though... -
Welcome to the liquid metal family. Once you've gotten a taste you don't go back to traditional paste!

My question is: is it safe to use liquid metal on a laptop that will sometimes be transported/shipped in Winter?
So the laptop might go down to 0-5 C. I have read that LM is for 10C+ operation only. But what about storage?
Could it become solid and splitter off the CPU potentially causing short circuits on the laptop mainboard later?
Conductonaut question.
