    Guys,

I have confirmed with 3 systems that have had new paste applied that running Dell Diagnostics from the boot menu fails CPU FAN test.

Can others confirm this with no repasted systems?

Thank you for your time and support.

Install the newest version of alienware control center and the error is gone

Downloading the new command center did not fix fan failure.

It would be a Bios update as EPSA is built in the bios.

Anyone else without liquid metal care to share running the diags from boot menu?

    Thank you.

Have you tried to see if your cpu fan is spinning?

Maybe it's also a loose sense/rpm report wire causing the fan to appear broken.

    Hi Mobius,

Yes fans work fine temps are good. 2 other forum members also fails the cpu fan diagnostic and both of those have LM applied.

For me it was fixed after installing bios 1.0.6 and then awcc. Bios alone didnt fix it.
    Another thing to try is:
Are u in discrete mode or in optimus mode? Because i think i was in discrete mode and swapped back to optimus mode before i tried the diag again

check if you have liquid metal shorting one of the cpu/gpu pins

might also check the motherboard if you spilled LM anywhere else

I also noticed this on 2 of the 17 R4's I had. Not sure why. Didn't troubleshoot what the issue is/was yet but wasn't concerned once I saw more than one machine was having the issue.

I decided to try it after disable cpu performance option.

Passed! Turned CPU performance back on, Failed.

I don't think it has anything to do with repaste just an issue with cpu performance on and epsa test script?

I got this on my AW13 also... fans working but having the laptop in an angle like with rubber feets makes a CPU fan error. Also this in CPU performance mode. I believe this is a sensor problem... putting the computer flat again and it will go through without error...

Guys, I have an AW 17R4 GTX 1080 that got heatsink replaced/repasted by a Dell tech. I'm also seeing a CPU Fan Failure in Dell Diagnostics although it seems to be working fine. Can any of you please tell me what your CPU fan rpm is normally during gaming? Mine stays around 4300.

Exact the same results on an AW17 R4, two infact.
