And there seems to be no entry for it in Device Manager either.
I got the laptop a few months ago, and this is the first time I'm trying to use the card reader.

Is there any fix short of calling tech support?

Hmm...Yea I'd call tech support just to do it. Have you reinstalled Windows? If so, have you installed all the correct drivers?

The cable may be disconnected or the card reader may not be functional. Send us an email to [email protected] with a brief description of the issue and your service tag to help you out.

I had this happen to me and a windows reinstall fixed it.

No amount of screwing around with drivers etc could help.

Dell did remote diagnostic and were ready to replace my whole mainboard.

However just before they did that I did a fresh windows install and it showed up again. no idea why.

I called tech support, and they reinstalled a whole bunch of drivers. Didn't work.
And then they updated the BIOS, and the card reader suddenly started working.
