Broadwell quads are out.
Question is when or how long before the AW15 and AW17 R2 will get these new processors?
i7-5700HQ for the AW15 no doubt.
The AW17 R2 could take the new Iris Pro 6200 based i7-5950HQ
MSI GS60 has already got the new Broadwell i7-5700HQ, without no re-design of the chassis or motherboard. Can only mean that the BGA chip is just soldered onto the motherboard, and an updated BIOS applied.
Yeah I heard from an artical at the start of the year no Broadwell, but the was ages ago in January. Then it really appears to be a simple solder on part replacement. Anyone have an ETA for these new updated processors for the current AW for 2015?
Btw. I remember just a few months ago the AW13 when from Haswell to Broadwell, even if that was just a dual core. Simple upgrade implemation really.

It would be nice to see the Broadwell quads in the bigger AW laptops. Is it possible that the AW 13 would ever get a quad core? Does it have the cooling ability?
I think the AW 13 now with the dual cores will be worthless with the next gen video cards (using the GA). -
(I feel as if I'e repasted this ten-thousand times.)

Plus, from a leak, Broadwell HQ needs better cooling and it doesn't offer more performance than Haswell. There's no real benefit to have it on the latest laptops, especially since Alienware just updated the base quad i7 on the 15 and 17 R2 to the i7-4720HQ.
To add on, Broadwell on the 13 caused some problems, like being unable to have an overclocked CPU with the GA, whereas Haswell did have an overclocked CPU with the GA.
A different chipset also has to be used, so it isn't a simple solder and done. The AW13 has two motherboard variations, one for Haswell and one for Broadwell, to accommodate the different chipsets. -
Whatever the case, if the GS60 can accommodate Broadwell quad and retain the same motherboard lay out, then certainly is possible. -
Honestly, I would prefer Alienware not have a full Broadwell line-up as that could just complicate BIOS problems (like the CPU overclock for the AW13). The BIOS is finicky on the bigger systems, and I fer adding a new generation would make things worse. They should fix that first before offering a new CPU line-up, if it happens.
The whole "Just because everyone's doing, so should you" idea doesn't hold up.
But I do have evidence, but it is stretching it.

I should note that in the article I first linked, Frank Azor manages both the XPS line and Alienware line. If the XPS 15 is going Skylake and skipping Broadwell altogether, that would be a good indicator that the AW15 / 17 R2 are too going straight to Skylake.Last edited: Jun 3, 2015 -
lol, just learned that the Iris Pro 6200 performs almost as good as my previous laptop in games xD

Even my 5200 iris pro can run dirt 3 complete at 1080p 50-60 fps medium details so the 6200 must be pretty good.
Broadwell quad core AW15 and AW17 R2?
