Bought an ANW13-223slv and the screen looks horrible?

    Hi,

I bought a 13" alienware at Fry's. It seemed fine in the store. They said they only had one of them left though, which was an open box, so I said fine. When I got the thing home, the screen is terrible. My Sager from 2007 seems like it has a much better screen. Colors are completely washed out, resolution looks bad, just no good.

I went to a website that checks natives resolution and it says it's 1280 x 720! Could this be correct? The Display settings in windows 8.1 allow me to select up to 1920x1080, but I'm guessing that's more a function of the video card's max output than the display's.

Anyway, pretty sure I'm going to return it, I can't stand the bleached out colors and it feels like I'm computing on a super nintendo. My fault for not double checking, but I feel like the display model had a better screen and said 1920x1080 resolution.

Am I missing a setting or something that would improve the video quality, or did I just get some kind of terrible botom of the line screen option that they made these with?

    Thanks!

They have 3 type of resolution for the 13". You might have gotten the lowest resolution screen model.

If you plan to get another one (from Amazon or so) make sure you get the better screen one. I've always recommended to go for the best screen possible. It does make a big difference.

Ok, so I returned the original to Fry's and ordered another ANW13 from Dell directly, making sure I got the 1920x1080 IPS screen. Problem is, when I turned this one on, it looked the same as the other, and when I checked the resolution on various websites, it still says I'm viewing on 1280x720!

    What gives?

My settings also say I'm set to 1920x1080 but my eyes tell me otherwise. Compared to my old 1600x900 Lenovo the alineware still looks grainy with HUGE windows icons and bad colors.

At this point I must be missing some setting somewhere that makes the resolution actually go to 1920x1080, right? Surely they wouldn't just ship me one with the 1280x720 screen after I specifically ordered and paid for the 1920x1080 right?

I think your windows scaling is turned to 150% or 200% and thus blurring the interface. Turn Windows scaling to 125 or 100%
