Hi, I have a Alienware 17 r3 with i7 - 6700hq 970m. My bios is 1.3.6. So my problem is when I leave my laptop idle for a while my screen normally goes black but when I move the mouse or touch the keyboard the screen will light up but today it just freezes(Happened twice now). I have to manually turn off the laptop to boot up again. I haven't change any settings then. I'm on performance mode and I have turned of hibernation as well. In my power plan settings when plugged in turn off display is 15 minutes and put computer to sleep is never. My laptop is always plugged in as I use the desktop mode battery charge. I have tried searching in google and no luck. Most of the things I have found was just changing power option settings to not turn off. Haven't found like freezing on black screen when idle. Has anyone have any idea on whats going on with my laptop? Help please. Thanks. ^_^

bump.. been searching and it seems like a bios problem s3 sleep mode.. guess I'll just ask dell tech support.. still in warranty and might update to latest bios and hopefully not get the throttling problem again.. But this seems really unusual for me as this was not happening before when i received the laptop and updated to 1.3.6.. tsk.. what a pain in the bum..

Update Intel graphics driver. It fixes above mentioned issue.

Hi. Try just re flashing the system's BIOS and then update the graphics drivers (both discrete and Intel's) that should take care of it but do let us know if it doesn't.

Found out the cause of the problem. It's my nvidia driver. I was using 376.60. I'm currently using the latest driver which is 381.65 and my firestrike score went down but fixed the black screen problem. So which driver are you using as the most stable one prior to the latest driver. Thanks.

In my testing if you use intel driver 21.20.16.4542 along with NV 378.78 gave the best performance. Just use DDU to wipe the current drivers( First use control panel to remove those drivers and then running DDU gives best results).
