Back after years, need help 15r3 (1070oc v 1080mq)

Hello everyone, after being active here since my first alienware m17xR3 im back, i recently sold my 15r1 and just bought a 15r3 with a 1080mq and am now having doubts. I pulled the trigger without doing much research and wound up buying prematurely,
My question is simple. Is the 1080mq better than the 1070oc ? does it outperform it? (seeing how the standard 1070 seems to be very close) I only trust you guys since you have these cards so im not googling asus/clevo boards. SO should i return my 1080 and reorder with a 1070oc and save cash?

The 1070 still beats the 1080MaxQ according to this video. I guess the 1080 Max Q might be quieter but aside from that I don't really see any reason to go with the 1080 Max Q over the 1070.

 

The maxq 1080 adds too much extra cost for what it offers. Its barely faster.

 

Now in regards to this video, he does mention not all of them are the same, but alienware website advertises thw 1080 max Q as "highest wattage possible" meaning its 110, does anyone have any alienware 15 max q comparisons? i cant seem to find any. Everything i find is usually of the 1080max q of the zephir

 

in case anyone wondering, here are the firestrike demo scores for the i7 7820 + 16gb 2400 + 1080 MAx Q
first is old drivers, 384.xx i believe on, second is new driver 391.01, third is a slight OC 100/150.




So in the end, this gpu is NOT superior to non alienware 1080 max Qs, it seems to be posting same results.

The latter might change when you overclock the 1080mq. It might sustain its boost clocks higher. Similar to reference boards and custom boards with a more elaborate power delivery circuit. But thats just a guess. Need to see pictures of the motherboards to compare that.

 

Can you all share your settings on the Alienware Overclocked GTX 1080 MQ if you have positive output? I've overclocked mine to gain around 30 to 40 fps on overwatch. My settings are Core Clock +180, and Memory Clock +500.
