The 1.0.0.5 has the lowest power limit so naturally the 180w vbios is going to perform less than the 200w vbios.
I would not call it crippling as you have a choice. The trade off is lower GPU temps.
While yes it will lower the performance, its not a giant amount.
If you are the type that likes to benchmark and get the highest number you are not going to want to go with this one.
In terms of real world performance I would personally just test them. Again, wiith lower power limits comes lower temps.
So for example if your testing shows a significant drop in temps but yields only a small drop in in GPU performance if tuned properly, you might want to stick with it.
It depends on your needs, your paste, what you are doing with your CPU (shared heatsink) many factors I could go on and on about.

can one mix and match the vbios with the system bios? for example using 190W vbios (the oldest vbios) paired with the latest 1.6.2 bios.

Is the higher power limit of the early VBIOS the reason some GPUs were spontaneously turning into bricks?

It is easy. Someone use gpu-z to save this vbios in .rom file. And then i can use nvflash to flash it. i am using 190W vbios of 51M, but my gpu was very hot. I think 180w is better for me :)

I would love to have a factory vBios for 2060 to flash my laptop. Although not even Dell website has it. Only way is to find anyone with 51W 2060 kind enough to use nvflash to create a backup copy and send it. There is a guide on how to make a backup copy by Hackness.

Could someone who has the 180W vBios installed extract it using nvflash or GPU-Z and post a link please?

I want to try it on my HP OMEN 17 but I need a .rom file. I cant run the EXE posted here.

I take full responsibility if it doesn't work, but the a51m 200W vbios works so I think ill be ok.

It has standard thermal limits for the GPU which is 87c, all BIOS' after that lower the GPU thermal limit to 76c or thereabouts.

The vBIOS controls the power, there are 180w, 190w and 200w vBIOS available.

Right on thanks have the 1.5.0 but wasn't sure, not seeing any hard temp throttle at 83c, only slight voltage, and power throttles on gpu indicated with rivatuner for some reason . On 180w vbios

If you're on 1.5.0 try 200w, it'll likely still power throttle but shouldn't impact FPS or anything much tbh .

Either due they found more chance for fire in the withdrawn bios, need implement more of Intel's security fixes or stop the users from fiddle with their ram to be able to get Intel's specs for ram speed (afraid for bricked machines who will need tech support who cost money).

As you know, Dell haven't followed Intel's specs at all and opted for max 2400MHz ram speed for their most expencive gaming flagship (Remember they offer 2666MHz ram for their cheapest sub $900 soldered Jokebooks). The new bios version was intended for coming refreshed Area-51m models. What is better than try stop owners of current gen models get the same?

Did Umar say anything about what they are planning to do to break that for those ADATA memory sticks so they can only run at a max speed of 2400? They must have let those memory SKUs slip through the cracks, but they'll "fix it" on the next BIOS update.

Memory die's come from several manufacturers (not only Samsung). And in different bin. The best is Samsung B-Die.

Hynix can run at rated overclock / XMP speeds fine as well. But, Samsung B-die overclocks beyond the rated overclock / XMP profile speeds using manual settings better than others.

I think what needs to happen is the SPD is going to have to be specially coded to function with Alienware's proprietary firmware. Not sure why they don't just step up to the plate and do the right thing by making all of the normal BIOS settings available.

Well. OK, I actually do know why, but the reasons are not good ones. They don't do the right thing. They do things their way. They market it as an enthusiast product but withhold most of the enthusiast features that are necessary to qualify it as being what they claim it to be.

They went damn cheapo on the MB as usual. They rather put the money in the metal body and the flawed Lunar White coating. Quality as you know, means much more than a brand name or chassis build quality.

On a machine with no ability to change memory speeds and timings, none whatsoever. If that's the kind of machine you have, don't waste money on enthusiast RAM. You won't be able to use it.

A short google search would bring you everything you want to know. Dell robbed you all from being able to take the advantage from it. And it doesn't matter what laptop you buy from them.
