so as subject suggests, I just did a fresh install of windows 10 and using hwmonitor, hwinfo, and gpuz, I cannot see the temps for my 980m on both the latest driver as of this writing and also 359.06. Anybody run into this sort of issue in the past?

Edit: it's windows 10 64 bit if that matters (doubt it). Previously on windows 8.1 I had no issues.

Edit again: so I'm leaving hwinfo open and under the maximum I do see what I should see. However it seems the sensor readings are intermittent. They pop up for a split second every so often.

Another Edit!: So I don't know if this was the fix, but I was trying to install afterburner and needed to install visual studio in order for the program to even run. I've also let windows install some updates. And now in hwmonitor I do see the 980 temps. Hard to say what was the fix though.

That's pretty weird, after a fresh install of Windows 10 the first thing I did was install HWiNFO64 and that worked fine?!?!

I dunno, as much as I like windows 10 it gives me grief quite often. Sometimes the scaling bugs out on the laptop screen and my windows explorer icons become tiny while the minimize and close buttons are giant.

I've been having this problem too. Intermittent temperature readings and the tech support was not able to help unfortunately. I've tried Afterburner and HWinfo64 but they both read inconsistently. Alienware 15 R2 with the 980m as well. If anyone finds a fix, please let me know; I'm also interested. Thanks.

As mentioned in first post, it fixed itself. I dunno what the specific fix is. Even when the temp monitoring programs couldn't see the temps consistently, when I ran Unigine heaven, it was able to produce temp readings. Just update your system, make sure you have visual studio for x86 and x64 installed. That's the only thing I did alongside of windows updates that fixed the issue. The rest is your standard driver install from dell site.

Yes it seems to be fine when under high stress loads (like gaming or stress-testing), but when you go back to regular to low useage, it reverts to intermittent readings under both. Still having the same issues unfortunately.

Dunno what to say. But as long as temps are tracked in stressed situations you're safe. Idle temps should be fine.

Could it be the case that when your 980m is sent to sleep (because it's not needed/turned on), you can't reach it to read the temperature? And when the 980m is actually used, the temperature reading works as expected.

Have you tried setting your 980m as the preferred option?
