Hello, in the market for a new gaming laptop. Last one I've owned was the Alienware m17x that I bought back around 2009 so it's time to upgrade. I want something with a gtx1080 and these appear to be the best options. I understand that the Alienware has some thermal paste issues going on and I'm not afraid of opening up the laptop and reapplying thermal compound. Just looking for an opinion as to which system I should get? Here's the specs of the laptops for comparison.

I would go for the aw17 myself. i hate the build quality of the eon. plastic fantastic. the razer is unbalanced with the 1080gtx combined with a mere 260watt psu.

You should probably put this in the what notebook should I buy subforum not the AW subforum... The Alienware subforum is just gonna tell you to get an AW...

The AW 17 has a heatsink flaw not a paste issue. Repasting can help but the heatsink is the problem, the problem is less rampant on the 17 but still there.

The Origin I would recommend looking at the real Clevo equivalent of. It's a Clevo P775DM, you can probably get a better price from LPC-Digital or GenTechPC. The desktop cpu makes it objectively the most powerful, though for controlling temps HIDEvolution offers a delidding service which may be worth considering.

The Razer isn't unbalanced, it's just going to be a weaker 1080. It'll be a decent percent slower than other 1080s but still not as slow as a 1070 by any means.

Also consider the Aorus X7 DT.

Hey! Instead of paying more for the 1tb SSD on the AW, go purchase it yourself. You can buy the new Samsung 960 EVO which has the highest read and writes on the market, the one AW gives is only 1200 read, 500 write. The EVO hits around 3200 read, 2000 write. Also it'll probably be more cheaper buying it yourself than getting a SSD from AW.

Also keep in mind that Razers support is 10x worse than AW's. They don't even answer and have multiple issues getting refunds and fixes out. You would be way better off with a AW that at least has some kind of support system in place.

Benchmarks of the razer only show a 3% increase in benchmarks compared to 1070 machines. so yeah i call that unbalanced. could buy a cheaper 1070 instead with better thermals.
