I just ordered a 15R3 with the FHD screen. The description only says 15.6 FHD IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits.

Is this 60 or 120hz? Does it have G-sync? If not should I cancel and wait for something better? GTX 1070 FWIW.

60Hz right now, the 120Hz will be G-SYNC and should be out in a few weeks.

Seems like I should wait. I got a really amazing price, not likely to get it if I cancel. How much difference will 120hz and G-Sync make? I have no real world experience with either. I'm an IT guy so I understand the technology, just haven't seen it in real world application.

    And thanks for your reply!

Personally I would wait for the 120hz screen. The difference between 60 and 120 is pretty huge, at least in my opinion. Might as well take advantage of the ridiculous FPS that 1070 will put out :)

It is hard to describe but 120hz makes it animate and look so much clearer and smooth....as someone who had 60hz and went to 120hz and is now back at 60hz while I await my new GPU I can tell you the difference is pretty big.

If you have never had it though , you may never necessarily know what your missing , so if the price was that good it isn't an absolute deal breaker.

Price isn't really the main issue, I was just shocked at the deal Alienware gave me without almost any negotiation. A few hundred dollars is worth zero compared to better performance. I really appreciate your post and I think I'm going to cancel and wait for the 120/G-Sync.

Yep, Thanks. I have one ordered but I'm considering cancelling as I'm pissed they took away the option for the 6820HK and force you into a 6700HQ. I'm getting tired of waiting but I'm not going to let them force me into not getting exactly what I want. Seems like they are playing games now only offering the 6820HK with 4k displays. I'm getting a bit fed up and looking at the Aorus A7 DT V6 with the 1080 card and a 6820HK. It's quite a lot more expensive but looks amazing and has everything I want including 1440P/120Hz.

My concern is with the Aorus being only 1" thick, configured with a GTX 1080 and 6820HK OC'd to ~4.0 that core temps may get hot enough to throttle even at a marginally taxing load.

    Anyone have thoughts on that?

Aorus build quality is not good from what I have heard and all notebooks with that thin of a form factor tend to suck at thermal management. Paying more and getting less also isn't a smart move. Getting something only because it has the CPU and GPU you want but runs too hot and throttles no matter what kind of thermal paste and pads you use to try to make it better probably isn't a great idea. I'm not a fan of anything BGA, but my recommendation would be to think long and hard before spending money on an Aorus notebook.

The motherboard os different for the 6820HK version which is out of stock now. I guess for now the 6700hq motherboard without optimus are the only gsync capable boards left.

the 60hz is good if you're planning on plugging a 144hz monitor or a 4K monitor ^^, and using supersampling on the 1080p.

Beside that take into consideration that the 120Hz is a TN panel with good horizontal viewing angle but bad vertical viewing angle (top to bottom) and still lacks the contrast and image color repoduction you'll find on most IPS screens (we will need to see the review of the 120hz before judging it tho).
