So as he removes the heat sink and fan from my old board I notice lots of buildup on the heat sink. I ask “do you need a razor blade or something to scrape that off?”

He replies “no, I’m just going to leave it on. It’s just thermal paste, the more you have the better.”

Then he proceeds to add new thermal paste globs to the new board and installs it back. Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong?

"The more you have the better"... That's not true though is it? You're probably not the only one. If I replace a motherboard, I'd just clean up the old paste and apply new.

Well so far my temps are 5 degrees higher than they ever were. Going to give it to me to settle in I suppose.

Good news is that my 1070 now has Samsung memory vice micron. So that’s good.

Thats a terrible idea. 2 thermal compounds at the same time and too much is a recipe for disaster for your thermals.

Do I just tell them that temps are high to get them to come out again? Or what justification should I give to have them come out? Would be nice to just get a new system.

Show them temps in ePSA rather than support assist.
