Sent my father's Alienware 17 R2 in for service since the GTX 980M was flaking out and the AlienFX on the lid were being very finicky. I get the computer back with a replaced motherbooard....but the lid doesn't close flush anymore like it used to, and 3 of the tabs on the bottom plate have been broken off. There is a GIANT bulge in the palm rest right next to the trackpad. Nice job there Alienware, real nice fit and finish.

Update. Disassembled computer, there was a CMOS battery suck to the actual unit battery that had been pressing up on the palmrest. How depot QA missed that is beyond me, and the giant lump or the fact that the LCD wasn't shutting flush with the computer wasn't a big enough indicator....man screw depot.

    I can't say I'm surprised...this is everything I'd expect from their service.

The repair depot is not specifically for Alienware computers. That's where they make a huge mistake, IMO. The repair depot is where ALL Dell laptops go (to die :D) - Inspiron, XPS, Alienware, etc. Obviously, Alienware is their "high performance" lineup and demands more knowledgeable technicians.

People working on Inspirons will be working on Alienwares for the first time in their lives. In other words, they have no idea how to take them apart. They'll be reading the manual to learn how to do so, etc.

You may as well do it yourself! I'd never send it to the "repair depot."
