Gonna be completely wild if this is actually priced at a decent price

But knowing how these kinds of devices tend to go down in history, it'll be garbage specs for an insane price. expecting 999 to start for the same performance as an i5 4200u and a GTX 730. Oh you want more storage/ram? That'll be another 400.

    Thanks but no thanks.

This looks sick!!! But I agree with the 2nd post... unfortunately.

Also; DONT GO FOR LUNAR WHITE! I’d bet that device will look like absolute crap VERY quick.

2nd photo, middle cover with a screw; my bet is on that that’s an m.2 slot for an NVMe/Optane drive. Upgradeable storage in that form factor would be a plus.

It would be a brilliant move to price it competitively with the Xbox and Playstation next-gen consoles. Would sell like Hot-Cakes even with (likely) Iris Pro 655 GPU (About Nvidia MX250 power).

Sure it wouldn't play 2018+ AAA titles at all; but it will play 2014- Stuff like Skyrim and Bioshock 3 at Ultra, and all the Indies just great.

Yes, my thought exactly on that panel. Also hoping for a Micro SD somewhere on the outside on final version. Could put another 1TB on those now.

Also a headphone jack in 2020!

Would be great if there was something like 80 - 128 GB internal storage for the OS. Would not take up more than 1 - 2 chips of room. Only time I'd be a proponent of soldered hardware is a case like that.

Ram unfortunately, will be soldered. Which is a letdown, but necessary for the form factor

LTT has stated that it's running on something like a 1065G7, which is honestly fine for me. What I would like is something like a "hotswap" M.2 bay and a SD Card slot, SD Cards are great and tiny but suck for big games, would be fine for tiny indie games

It's running 10 series CPU with iGPU

Kinda wish it had those newer 4000 series Ryzen CPUs with better iGPU

Likely won't have either. By time of/if released will be the next gen. I dont see this for 2020 given they wouldn't set any timeline in interviews or even if it is a real product...

They also said they are very open to suggestions in the LTT video.

Reading various articles on the UFO, people seem to be onboard with it despite not having a discrete GPU (I imagine either Intel Tiger Lake with Xe graphics or Ryzen 4000 with Vega 7nm would be used with LPDDR4X RAM if it ever launches). However, most people agree price is the biggest barrier. I hope if Alienware does decide to release this, they take a page from how they priced the Alpha into consideration and not overcharge for accessories like the dock and spare controllers (I have very little belief the latter would happen, though).

It sucks that i have to say this but i think everyone should be careful about the hype with new product releases, ESPECIALLY when it is with alienware.

Remember how they promised the alienware area51m will be the final answer to overclocking in a laptop? they pair the laptop with an unlocked CPU and a good gpu, then turn around and guess what? LOCKED MOTHERBOARD, there goes the overclocks. The area51m i had could not even hold a stable 5ghz on the cpu.

As much as this UFO looks like a great product i will wait until i see the real news from it from real people's experiences, will not believe a word alienware and their marketting team says

Motherboard is unlocked, its just physically limited. They delivered upon expectations and their promises on that regard.
If I'm being honest, just let it be able to cool itself and get 2-3 hours battery, and maybe a socketed M.2 or SD card, and let it be under 600-700. Any more than that, I'll have a hard time seeing its use

    Apples and oranges comparison.

If you can deliver a BGA tablet, you should be able to deliver this just fine.

Of course there are other ways to screw this one up ;)

The excitement is with the controllers.

PS. The Area 51m is still a good product in very thin category of LGA laptops. Just not for overclocking enthusiast. GPU benchmarks are near top of the line. And CPU does just fine at 4.9.

It is only a concept so we might see an improvement especially at the gpu side. Maybe the upcoming intel discrete gpu will be in it in the future.

What do you guys think the price will be?

Too high, lol. Because Dell doesn't have good strategic vision. These should be priced competitively with the consoles.

They can do this with negotiation/ partnership with intel or something... just like the consoles do with AMD and Nvidia.

They won't though. They will price it like a premium "ultrabook". My guess is $1200.

The rumored 1065G7 alone costs around 425$, so, think 1200$+ range.

The CPU alone costs more than a Switch, no way it will be even near Switch price..

One nice thing is, if you wanna play in house and have a gaming desktop/laptop you can do in home streaming.

You know play Crysis 3 on iGPU using streaming :D

That is true about the UFO, however on the area 51m i have experienced the clocks will not hold around 5 or 4.9, and due to thermals or power or something else would drop to around 4.3 or lower

Mine will run stock 4.7Ghz all day all core as long as temps are in check

    BIOS 1.5.0 of course

If I run 5Ghz it runs there as well and holds last time I tried but gets too hot and downclocks to around 4.8Ghz then 4.7Ghz. Haven't experienced 4.3Ghz throttling. I'd assume it be a temp issue. Power seems to hold at stock clocks at least

    Not to derail too much:
I can also stick mine 4.8 all day long, but at a too loud a fan noise. So I keep it 4.5 no problem on quieter fans. (also 1.5 Bios)

I think you have a major problem if 4.3 is your max stable.

Does the Concept UFO have a touchscreen? I couldn't find a source that states so. All of them state it had a screen with a 1200p resolution. No word on its refresh rate either, but I assume it's 60Hz.

Touchscreen and 120Hz display would be ideal.

This device is still a concept anyways so I expect those things when it's released. Although I doubt iGPU can drive anything at 120fps lol

Well if you can link to a dock aka the grafic amplifier.
On the other hand 120 hz is great but dont go 4k i rader want a 2k screen of full hd oled .
And to top it with Linux support so we don't have windows taking resources and we can emulate whatever we want.

I was thinking it would be in the $999 range. But, with crappy specs like 8gb or ram and a tiny m.2 drive. So 16gb would probably be in your estimate I guess.

I’m really hoping they don’t make the mistake of not having the graphics amp port. I think that would be a death sentence if they didn’t.

Al long as the USB C is thunderbolt it can use an eGPU. But your right in that it would Alienate a lot of Alienware Amp owners.

I highly doubt it can be possible to be on this thing... Biggest issue is the port size and 'inflexibility'.

Ports on this thing have to be on the top or bottom. The Amp cable is very inflexible and heavy and the port would take up all the space on the top.

Now if the made a special dock (with Amp Port connection) that connects to the bottom, that would work. But now you are talking more $$$ for accessories.

I think Alienware would be smart enough to have thunderbolt on it. It only seems to be Asus who doesn’t have it for some weird reason. But the Graphics amp just performs better so obviously I want that option. ;)

I didn’t consider that. Hmm. They did have a dock of sorts at the show so that might be something they would do. Too the right person though it would be a great device. So the cost would justify if they made it as flexible as possible. Only other thing I can think of maybe put it on the back where the kick stand comes out. If the device is thick enough. Can’t say I’d have faith in that idea either honestly.

Personally I would be ok with it being on the top or bottom and laying it down on a table. I’d have it hooked up to everything I’d need on the Amp itself. Or you know. . .prey for a gen 2 with Ryzen parts and not that garbage intel integrated gpu.

I would probably buy this thing. I think it looks cool and would pair so nicely with the Switch as it is. I'm sure Steam in home streaming would work well enough as well.

I think it would be neat to have a low end model for esports games/low end games/in home streaming while also having a higher end model. Depending on price, I would consider getting the cheapest SKU if it could do AAA games of the year it is released at least on low.
