Alienware R3 13inch - would heat be a issue with just vim and browser?

I am a software developer that develops front end web apps. I run Gentoo and I use vim to code.

I want to get the Alienware R3 13inch so I can have OLED and do occasional(I'm a light gamer) gaming.

I checked out a demo model at Bestbuy of the exact model(but with a IPS screen instead). The left side of the keyboard was very warm. There was nothing running that was taxing the laptop, just a app screen for configurations. I asked the Best Buy employee why it was so warm and he said it was because they left the laptop on 24/7 and never turn it off for nightly updates.

I found it odd that the left side of the keyboard would be so warm without the CPU being taxed. If I placed linux on it and just used VIM and a browser, would the keyboard be just as warm as the one I demo'd at Bestbuy? Or does leaving that laptop on 24/7 really make it warm even if there is nothing taxing the cpu?

That is the toshiba SSD. They get hot. You can get either Toshiba or Samsung SSD from Dell at random.

Edit: Lol reversed sides in my head. SSDs are on Left when removing when laptop is upside down.

There is stuff using the CPU in the background. Best buy loads the demo models with bloatware a lot of the time.

Use TLP with custom kernel upgrades from 4.8 to 4.10 to activate Speedshift natively.
Use Powertop to calibrate the power consumption on AC and battery using Intel and Nvidia GPUs separately.
