Does anyone know if the Area 51m will come with a rtx 2080 super configuration anytime soon?

There is no official word yet. But, March seems to be the month that alot of these new laptops will be released. Or the months to follow. Good bet that an Area 51m Revision 2 will be out around then with the SUPER gpu's. I think what they're waiting on is the 10th Gen Cpu's. Which I think are being officially announced around that time also.

Why they keep things super secretive? If intel doesnt release 10th gen CPU what would happen?

Hmmm thats interesting! I wonder how long well have to wait for the Ampere if they decide to release Super mobile versions. And how much Dell will charge for a Ampere upgrade kit.

Just the way the industry works. And Alienware, Msi, Razer, and all the others KNOW when they’re being released. But they’re under contract to keep their mouths shut or they would be fined. And possibly be excluded from future intel releases. Plus they want to sell their current stock on products so they don’t sit on shelves when the new products come out. ;)

I’ve only seen word of mouth rumors on that end. Q4 of 2020 seems likely. But only for desktops. Laptops are likely looking at about a year for mobile chips. So if you’re looking for something now I’d pull the trigger. You can either get the new super gpu laptops or get the non super laptops at a discount. Either way you’d be good to go. The difference in the 2080 and 2080 super was so minor it wasn’t worth selling your 2080 to get one. So for us gamers it’s not a heck of an upgrade. But the new designs may have other improvements we would appreciate.

The rtx 2080 super desktop version in the area 51m would be an amazing upgrade for me. Currently rocking a gtx 1060m, hope they will have something by April so I can game away during my vacation.

Intel 10900k Might come sooner than anticipated! Check TDP I hope Alienware can come out with a nice tweak for heatsink.

    to quote:
"...on the 10900K — the CPU’s actual power draw under full load may be more like 300W"

Is it worth Selling maxed Area51m and buy R2?

How has the thermal throttling been out of the box for the area 51m 9900k and the rtx2080? I hear the gpu thermal throttles at 75 degrees. And is it a real necessity to delid and LM paste the 9900k for it to preform under normal gaming environments?

Stock latest Vbios 1.8.x throttles at 78C, CPU throttles when hitting 100C. Deliding not required at all , might save you 3-5C 7C at best. Liquid metal isnt advised to be placed on die. It slowly eats it. If you plan to keep your laptop for 5 years then its fine.

Ive ordered my area51m late dec, got it mid jan. The stock paste is actually good. I replaced the paste with Gelid Extreme; this paste is known for longevity and excellent thermal performance. I would advise not to use Liquid metal at expensive components since
1-The contact points are extremely poor, you need to apply it on both the die and the sink.
2- I dont know about thermal performance over the year, it can degrade.
3- Eats away components thus leave marks (usually dark) on both Die and sink.
4- The problem in Aircooling is not the ability to handle sudden spikes in thermals; the heat doesnt transfer quick enough from the chip to heat pipes to fins and finally to air, our problem heat is accumulating at the chip / pipe area. It doesnt mater what paste you use its going to throttles regardless.

However, if you choose to apply it expect better thermals but stop dreaming its above 10C overall (if you apply it on Die + IHS )

But, I think if 10900k is coming for Area51m R2 then you better wait, there is a vapor chamber sink leaked to reddit already. Im not sure if its enough to handle 10 Cores. I myself would sell my area51m (maxed out) If 10900k is on the horizon (April as rumored).

    Sorry for the long talk.

    Best Regards,

    JeeJee

Has anything else come out in regards to the vapor chamber sink leak for the R2?

IMHO, the 10900K is not worth it, given the horrible power efficiency.

I wonder why they don't consider putting the Ryzen 2 desktop CPUs? I'd definitely buy an Area 51M with one of those.
