    Hello.

So I'm considering getting my first AW17 (4980HQ, GTX 980m, 16gb RAM, touchscreen, 1tb HDD+256gb SSD) for uni and gaming sometime in the next few months. I've looked around at options from the Lenovo Y50-70, HP omen, Asus g751 and Clevo/Sager/Aorus but I've loved the look of Alienware since I first saw one- and the performance doesn't hurt either.

I may end up getting the graphics amplifier at some point, but I was just wondering how often Alienware refresh their laptop lineup/ update the components for the next generation of graphics cards etc. Don't want to buy one and then a couple of months later a bigger better version is revealed.

Also I'm slightly worried about the 180w PSU, has anyone in the UK managed to get a 240w from Dell? If not I'll buy one elsewhere.

Any info will be appreciated, thanks!

The next revisions are reported to come when Skylake arrives, or near the end of this year/beginning of next year.

Ah thanks, not sure if I'll wait till the end of the year to get mine, although skylake would be a nice upgrade.. Hopefully there will be a dual GPU 17" model in the next lineup, but I heard alienware was sticking to single GPU's

Single GPU with GPU amp option does seem to be the way they want to go at the moment.

We do not have any info about that yet unfortunately. The Echo 17R2 is a great machine, but there's also the option to wait.

I guess it all depends on how much you need the machine right now :p

Hmm.. as the amp will always be more powerful than what's in the machine, and the CPU won't be a bottleneck for a few years- I may as well get mine this generation.

@Alienware-L_Porras I wouldn't say I need it just yet, but I sure as hell want it :D might wait till my exams are over and then make my decision. In the meantime I'll probably continue obsessing over reviews and the forums. Have you heard anything regarding the 240w PSU in the UK? I've only read about Dell shipping them in the US and Canada.

You can try contacting support and asking them over the phone. I'm unable to tell as I work only for the US and Ca.
