Hi I was browsing bestbuy looking at the protection plan on my other Alienware when the screen just went black with white squares that was snowy. The system was frozen too. I was afraid to power it off thinking it may not come back up but it did and seemed ok. I had just finished playing tomb raider also so maybe it was hot? I did noticed the cpu temps on the high 60c at idle and would jump to 80c when opening google chrome but the fans never really ramped up so idk. Here is a picture.

Does it boot up fine now after you force shutdown the PC? I recommend you do a repaste and see if it helps. If you face this issue there might be a chance that intel or nvidia gpus are dead. Or could be a driver issue.

yes it boots fine now. I am typing on it to write this post. maybe it was a driver glitch. right now the temps are showing 35c on cpu and 40c on gpu. Is that enough to warrant a tear down to repaste it?

Its good. You can try undervolting to reduce some 5-10C off your CPU.

Only on 6700HQ with -120mV on AC and -145mV on battery.

I went ahead and did a repaste which to my surprise it wasn't to bad. Right now its at 49c on cpu and 53c on gpu. under a synthetic load the cpu will get to 80c and while using furmark the gpu will get to 68c. now that is running both programs at the same time, which in general i will never tax both at 100% at the same time.

Furmark will kill your GPU and so does prime95. Use Aida64 stability test or some 3dmark benchmarks esp. firestrike or timespy. You can play games as well to test the temps.

It's kind of dated now but I like Unigine Heaven benchmark too.

I forget about it always, add Superposition for pure OC testing.
